luciazephyr: Janelle Monae, "while your roses died I came alive" ([♪] while your roses died I came alive)
This is an odd request, but FListers, will you please share your happiest, more hopeful music right now?

I found out that my family's financial problems are even bigger than we thought. That car trouble a few weeks ago fucking gutted us and we have <$400 in the bank. My medical bills are overdue because I don't have the cash for them, and I wasn't able to pay the full mortgage amount this month (I cover the mortgage, Mum tries to cover everything else). We have late bills and

the worst of it is my health insurance, the one that screwed me over to the tune of $2000. They're still taking $100 out of my paycheck a month, and that's $100 I could really fucking use, to put it extremely lightly. I tried to cancel the insurance since it's worthless and I can't even use it to go see a doctor about my knee problems (been just wearing a knee brace, seems to be helping). Apparently, I can't cancel until November, which... I don't even want to think about right now. I've cried enough today already.

So I'm packing up some stuff to sell. That Wii my well-meaning Grandmum got that I've never used, some over things.

Luckily, I'm going to Florida on the 16th. I can make a lot of money there. Maybe I'll stay there until November, even though I loathe the place with every fiber of my being.

Anyway. Happy music, if you got any. Music is how I self-medicate my depression. Feeling agitated? Throw on some Andrew Bird and I mellow out in minutes. Feeling frantic? Some Damien Rice calms me down. Lethargic? Break out the Scissor Sisters.

Now I need happy/hopeful shit. Really bad.

At the moment, this is my cheerful song of choice (also, excellent fanvid of Doctor Who's fifth series, watch for spoilers):

:gets back to packing up stuff:

Probably goes without saying that MoC will be late again. It's hard to focus when financial issues come up.

Been a while since I uploaded some music for ya'll.

Janelle Monae, as Cindy Mayweather

Janelle Monae's Metropolis Suites I, II, and III.

Best of: "Many Moons", "Dance or Die", "Cold War", "Tightrope", "Come Alive (War of the Roses)", "57821", and the incomparable "BaBopByeYa." But like with Arcade Fire, there is no song here I don't love.
luciazephyr: Book of the Still, the time traveler's lifeline (Default)
So ASAP I am buying all of Janelle Monae's music.

Holy SHIT, why have I not heard of this woman before today!?

This tiny gal with a massive voice who blends tons of genres into her albums which have an ongoing story arc about an android with a soul and she dances like homigawd and she wears tuxedos and formal wear as her "uniform" on stage and you have no idea how many of my buttons are being hit, guys. you have no idea.

:pervs sodamnhard:

oh and I made some Dresden icons

you will be visiting by ghosts of indictment past, present, and future conservatives get real upset don't reduce my insecurities to game mechanics

OKAY YOU KNOW WHAT WE NEED RIGHT NOW?

SEXY MUSIC

some embedded sexy music )

YOUR TURN GUIZE. :is on a music-induced high:

Also, I almost included Damien Rice's "Woman Like a Man," but I couldn't find a good concert version and I think it might be a heavy YMMV song. On the other hand, HELLO MY PERFECT MURPHY SONG.
luciazephyr: Book of the Still, the time traveler's lifeline (Default)
So apparently delicious might be sold instead of shut down. RELIEF LIKE WHOA.

I'm kind of taking a night off from writing fic for the first time in about 35 days. Ya rly, guize. LET'S DO SOME MEMES!

The Fannish End Of the Year Meme! )

Also, I think I had, uh, a LOT of new people watching this LJ now. Hi, new people! Lemme find some relevant "who the hell is this lucy person" memes...

Ask me one fandom-related question in the comments. This can be fandom specific, general, or about fandom/lj stuff/fic writing/etc. in general.

Feel free to ask more than one if you fancy. Hell, don't feel obligated to keep it fannish if you want to ask me something about me.

To save a few of the obvious: Lucy, American, lesbian but currently celibate, Missouri by way of Florida and New York, Aquarius-Saggitarius, Year of the Snake, and yes I do curse a lot, sorry about that.

Also I may possibly make another post about my mental casting for the Dresden Files. Might. Probably. Yeah.
luciazephyr: Book of the Still, the time traveler's lifeline (Default)
OKAY SO FIRST OFF, ELLA AND LULLABEE, YOU NEED THIS MUSIC

I have Arcade Fire's The Suburbs.

So that is three consecutive albums by this band that must go on my list of greatest albums I have ever heard.

How does AF even exist? I keep thinking they are some deranged product of my imagination sprung from the rage and disappointment I feel whenever I accidentally listen to modern music on the radio. They are... poignant and obscenely beautiful and, oh, ARE A INDIE ROCK BAND WITH A STRINGS SECTION HELLO

And you all must have all their albums.

Their first, Funeral, which I posted here before: http://www.sendspace.com/file/diedde

Their second, Neon Bible: http://www.sendspace.com/file/zzccu2

AND THE LATEST AND GREATEST, The Suburbs: http://www.sendspace.com/file/qh58dk (Note, when I was RARing this one, I got an error but I think it worked. If the file is borked, LEMME KNOW. I will provide a fixed one!)

Aaaaaand I have been writing a lot of fic, but without finishing any. Here's a taste of some! I'll try to get, uh, one of them done and posted soon!

When you see this, post a snippet from your works-in-progress.

The (Abridged) Eight Doctor Adventures - written by myself and the incomparable Lullabee )

'a nice day to start again', sequel to 'come to me with remedies' )

the one where Fitz accidentally becomes a sex slave and is quite good at it (also with Lullabee!) )

I'm also working on a bastard combination of Zagreus, a dash of Amy's Choice, a treatise on why Anji is awesome, Paul McGann's sexy evil voice, and this fan-made map of the TARDIS that can be summarized as IN THE GRIMDARK OF THE GRIMDARK, THERE IS ONLY GRIMDARK. It'll have a happy ending tho.

ALSO [livejournal.com profile] lullabee_lj IS WORKING ON A FUCKING PHENOMENAL AU THAT YOU MIGHT WANT TO ASK HER ABOUT. :PEER PRESSURE:

-Lucy

PS: Okay so I am so sick of not having a paid account, so I need to get one. But apparently I have zero credit history so I can't get a card to use for online purchases. Any ideas on how to get a card?
luciazephyr: Book of the Still, the time traveler's lifeline (Default)
Aunt Lucy has more music!

Arcade Fire's Funeral

is it a dream? is it a lie? I think I'll let you decide!

This album is ridiculously beautiful. I mean, fucking seriously, this good of music shouldn't be allowed. I was in the store and making some impulse buys (since my Maximo Park impulse buy went so awesomely) and my pal Charlie took the Muse CD out of my hands and gave me this and promised if I didn't like it, he would buy it back from me. He is not going to get that chance. This CD is never leaving my hot little hands.

So go and DL it, my lovelies!

Tomorrow I'm off of work, so I'm gonna upload all of the Scissor Sister's albums to celebrate the new album finally happening, including the concert CD I made from ripping the DVD because for some reason they didn't put out a live album for the awesome that was the O2 concert.

Heeeey speaking of music, anyone have some Muse or another Arcade Fire album?

AUNT LUCY HAS A FABULOUS NEW ALBUM FOR YOU LOVELY PEOPLE

On a whim, because I love the three songs of theirs I have, I bought a Maximo Park album.

It is totally awesome so you all need to have it too.

Maximo Park's Our Earthly Pleasures

love is a lie, which means I've been lied to; love is a lie, which means I've been lying too

You know an album is gonna be good when you haven't even played it yet and are just reading through the lyric booklet and you say aloud, "oh man, that's fucking beautiful." I'm having trouble getting past the first five songs because they are just that good and as soon as "Karaoke Plays" finishes, I'm launching back to "Girls Who Play Guitars". "Parisian Skies" and "Pride Before a Fall" also stand out a lot.

Also, "Our Velocity" is now my Doctor/Fitz song. Or maybe "Books from Boxes". Oh god, this band.

-Lucy

ETA: oh and "A Fortnight's Time" is RIDICULOUSLY CUTE. It's just this guy asking a girl out on a date but he's shy and hasn't dated a lot and "when it comes to girls, I'm mostly hypothetical/if I list their names, it's purely alphabetical." HEEEE. ♥
luciazephyr: Book of the Still, the time traveler's lifeline (Default)
Nine albums under the cut!

tons of stuff, including Lonely Island, Of Montreal, Franz Ferdinand, the incomparable Mister Bird, and more )

And that's all I have for now! I do own bunches of stuff that may be worth sharing, but this is good for now, methinks. Hope you all like.

-Lucy

I'm not sure I should be admitting this to you all, but I just wanna say Lady Gaga's "Bad Romance" dance is quite the workout.

I'm just saying.

Fuck the floor section at the end. I can't do a Charleston step to save my life.

-Lucy

You know what's pretty much the best bit of wordplay I've heard in a song?

From Barenaked Ladies' "Sell Sell Sell"* (which is an amazing song btw): in terms of Roman numerals, he's Ivy League like Roman Polanski.

I mean really. Who thinks of a lyric like that? IV = Ivy, it's such a weird turn of phrase to use in a song. God, I miss having a ton of BNL on my Zune.

Current DLs of Human Trajectory: 43. Success? Little feedback makes me unsure, but hey.

-Lucy

* Also, for anyone familiar with the show Dexter, there is a phenomenal fanvid done to this song.
luciazephyr: Book of the Still, the time traveler's lifeline (Default)
1. Where the hell is the next Scissor Sisters album? I miss them.

2. Where the hell is Half-Life 2: Episode 3? FFS, episodic gaming does not mean "a two-hour game that apparently takes as long as a 40 hours game to produce". Maybe it's because I worship Insomniac who, IIRC, never took more than two years to put out a full, new, amazing game, but COME ON VALVE. You are the lord god king of game companies now, FINISH THE SERIES THAT MADE YOU SO.

3. P4 is still awesome, gay, and fun.

WARNING: INCOMING SRS BNS

4. Game Informer is moronic and should never, ever be taken seriously. Top 200 games of all time and you put BioShock at 27 and System Shock 2 at 105?! Also, you actually included games that aren't even a year old, such as Uncharted 2, Batman: Arkham Asylum, Borderlands, CoD: MW2, InFamous... Just. GAH. WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU?

Worst of all. SS2? #102. Halo? 39

Rage with me:

full list for maximum WTF with my little bitchy elitist complaints )

For the record, out of the 200, I've played.... about 60, closer to 75 if you count LPs I've seen.

God, rage rage rage. Stupid things to get hung-up on ahoy.

So I'm finally working my way through American Gods, AKA: the book I've started and failed to finish about five times. I really adore Shadow. In my head, he's got dark brown hair, a naturally handsome face, green-grey eyes, and would good in a SEAL uniform-- oh, yeah, he's AU!Snake to me, what about it?

No, really, he's Snake. I don't know why but he just strikes me as that so hard, I cannot imagine him looking any different.

Mum says I need to pick out a CD for her to buy me for the holidays because it's like a yearly tradition. I have no idea what to get. I was thinking maybe a Maximo Park CD since I like almost all of their songs that I've heard? I dunno, what do you think, FList? I like Andrew Bird, Scissor Sisters, and Franz Ferdinand (one of these is not like the others). Anything weird, indie, and awesome that you like?

-Lucy
luciazephyr: Book of the Still, the time traveler's lifeline (Default)
I just spontaneously got a crush on Adam Lambert.

He's like... the result of a top secret experiment done by the Gay Mafia to create the perfect blend of David Bowie, Jake Shears, and a lot of guyliner.

Hot damn!

You know what I find hilariously ironic? Lambert recently got in trouble for promiscuous dancing when performing this song for the AMAs, right? Well, considering the lyrics of the song boil down to "you think I'm innocent, I'm gonna shock you, baby," and the video takes place in a kink club, you'd think they would have expected this. Heh.

It's bad that I wanna buy his album, isn't it? But come on! 83

Oh FFS, I have to work on my Snake mix now, but fucking Playlist Project won't load for me.

So, leaving myself a note: Nerina Pallot's "Everyone's Gone to War".
I've got a friend, he's a pure-bred killing machine
He says he's waited his whole damn life for this
I knew him well when he was seventeen
Now he's a man he'll be dead by Christmas

And so, everybody's going to war
But we don't know what we're fighting for
Don't tell me it's a worthy cause
No cause could be so worthy

For every man who wants to rule the world
There'll be a man who just wants to be free
What do we learn but what should not be learned?
Too late to find a cure for this disease

If love is a drug, I guess we're all sober
If hope is a song, I guess it's all over
How to have faith, when faith is a crime?
I don't want to die
I'f God's on our side, then God is a joker
Asleep on the job, his children fall over
Running out through the door and straight to the sky
I don't want to die

Someone do me a favor: Go here. Does the playlist load for you?

Submitted app to [livejournal.com profile] omphalotus_rp. You all should too. I can't pimp this place harder. I want a ton of fandoms there and a big orgy of exploration, almost-crack, sex, drugs, rock and roll, violence, and mushrooms. If you RP, take a looksee, please? :BIG HOPEFUL MOE EYES:

Also, I may app Castiel there after the first Activity Check. :B

So in my glam rock renaissance, I rediscovered what is a top contender for Lucy's Favorite Song Of All Time. I lost this song years ago and just now found it again. It's fabulous, and the second verse, ("so we stole and drank champagne, on the seventh seal you said you never feel pain...") is the greatest in the world.

It's an incredibly vivid, amazing song. It's Franz Ferdinand's "The Fallen".

Some have aired titular concerns. If you're "minions," which you are, what does that make me? I think, "Master" is too overtly hierarchical. Technically, any of these work: Tzar, My Liege, Commandant, Swami, Enlightened One, The Oppressor, The Great Confuser, & The Babysitter.

Must have a Misha icon proclaiming him "The Great Confuser".

I JUST REALIZED SOMETHING STRANGE ABOUT MYSELF. I listen to a shitton of music. Just. Bunches of music. Here's the thing: I always assume that in romance songs, a female singer is singing to a girl and a male singer is singing to a guy. Like... always. The only exception I can think of is Damien Rice, whose "The Professor" and duet songs I see as heterosexual.

Anyone do the same thing, or am I just crazy like that?

[Error: unknown template qotd]

Am I the only person that just sees inkblots when I look at these things? Does that mean my brain is broken?

Oh, sometimes I think, "Hey, I have a texture like that in my GIMP files" though.

In totally unrelated, news, IF ONE MORE MUSIC SITE GOES "OH, YOU LIKE DECEMBERISTS, ANDREW BIRD, AND DAMIEN RICE? YOU SHOULD TRY NEUTRAL MILK HOTEL," I AM GOING TO BUILD A TIME MACHINE, GO BACK, AND STOP NMH FROM FORMING.

I have been suggested their songs about ten times now. Either ya'll are suggesting their worst songs or I just don't fucking like them, okay.

Jesus. HEY, FELLOW MUSIC NERD BUDDIES: SUGGEST ME A GOOD NMH SONG. Like, the best you can find for stream. Let's settle this.

-Lucy

PS: It really bugs me that these Writer's Block things use up my subject line. I was gonna put "video killed the radio star" or sommat.
luciazephyr: Book of the Still, the time traveler's lifeline (Default)
Oh my god. Andrew Bird. Solo. Crazy beautiful performance making full use of the recorder pedal.

And he starts with fucking "Anonanimal".

dhgkjdhfkjgd :weeps like a little bitch:

It's here. I can't make my Video Downloader grab it. Is anyone able to? Please?!

-Lucy

ETA: I AM CRYING. OH GOD. HOW DOES HE DO THIS ME? THIS SONG TEARS MY HEART OUT. I mean, the lyrics are nigh gibberish, but mean so much to me, I just... Fuck. Also, HOW DOES HE DO THAT? HOW DO YOU THINK THAT FAST, TO SET UP YOUR LOOPING SO PERFECTLY OH GOD ANDREW.

ETA2: Erm, because few people give a fuck about the heartrending music of Mr. Bird, here's a meme for ya'll to order me around with.

The "You Should Write..." Meme!
