Gee, it's been a while since I posted

Like, really. In between this post and the last, I went to Chicago. Yeah. Spent a week trolling around the Mag Mile, Lakeview, and Wrigleyville with binz. I'll probably do a big post about it when I get the photos developed. To say the least, it was the most amazing thing I've ever done. And Binz deserves all the praise for putting me up and dealing with me. I hung onto her like a particularly aggressive fungus, I swear. SORRY BINZ. ILU~!


The Bakery AU is done, but waiting on a beta. It's just that everyone's busy, it seems, so ya'll have to wait. Sorry. Usually by now, I'd go stir-crazy and post it anyway, but I'm fairly certain the ending is terrible, so I actually need the betas to whip me into shape. Then AO3 editing and the final edition will be up. The first two chapters need a lot of work, I need to make a few factual corrections, and there's a new scene going in. So. There's that. Then back to MoC if anyone besides me even remembers that series, erm.


Been playing Dragon Age: Origins in my scarce free time. And I will never be able to give anyone shit for romancing Mass Effect 2's Thane because he's OBVIOUSLY calculated and evilly designed to pander to fangirls, seeing how Alistair is also obviously calculated and evilly designed to pander to fangirls and OH WHOOPS guess I'm romancing him. 8|


So are we not doing Fandom Yuletide Wishlists this year? I remember getting some cool fanfic covers and making some icons a few years back... I love fannish wishlists.

Oh okay! Cool! I have mixed feelings about MoC now, but I'm anxious to get back to it. Thankfully, after Finals Week, I should have the time to dig into it. 8D

I'm in the middle of my finals week, so it's not pressing. I've just had multiple people ask about it, so I'm giving a status update. And it's not just your (admittedly fabulous) beta I am waiting on, so.

I was, from the 17th to the 22nd. It was amazing. I was right on Michigan Avenue. Have even more love for Chicago than I had before.

Binz picked up some from the Magnolia Bakery that were pretty okay? The red velvet was brilliant.

1. Field wasn't great, actually. Was kind of sad and wished I'd gone to Shedd instead to see the octopuses. Which is Binz's fault. Her octopus obsession is communicative.

Which is part of why I am so excited to get to DA2. Oh man, I about bawled when I saw this fannish confession on Tumblr about DA2. Something like... "I know it's unrealistic, but I like that everyone in DA2 is bisexual. It makes me feel less alone." sjhagnerjigneira :rolls around:

Before I got mad at USA for their trailer for their new show "Common Law" and how they pander so hard without actually being gay, yes. Love me some "Suits".

See, I can't be mad at them for it, since they're pushing closer than anything American that's not on Logo. (And if you've ever watched Logo's serials...) And when they pander, they more or less stick (or return) to the pander, as opposed to, say, CBS, which is playing gay chicken with H50.

Don't get LOGO, so I have no idea about their programming. 8(

Oh god. H50 makes me squirm with the level of gay going on there. I mean, fucking hell. I have never seen anything that gay. I've kind of stopped watching because I have no idea what the TPTB of that show is doing. They can't not realize, right?

s01 was crazy with the "my god, am I seeing this?" s02, I think they got some serious backlash, so now there's so much inconsistency in the writing...

Except that one episode that was pretty much the Sherlock Holmes movie, with the invading each other's space, arguing about "their" dog, and STEVE GOING FOR THE ARM-OVER-THE-SOFA TRICK.

Like I said. s02 is two damn separate series with the same characters and it's cognitive whiplash. Sort of if you watched the Star Trek I and XI movies intercut. The characterizations alone would fry your brain.

After S2 is done, I may as Mklutz which episodes are worth watching, since yeah, I heard some were terrible.

But oh man. Come on. Steve's face when his smooth arm-across-the-sofa move failed. "MAYDAY MAYDAY, WITHDRAW ARM. I REPEAT: WITHDRAW ARM."

Yeah, some of the gay is just incredible. Then the Obligatory Romantic Insert appears and... yeah. And the plots are... I've got an H50 clock running, and it's not got a lot of cushion.

Whereas USA hasn't really done any of that, yet.

But in H50 from what I've seen (most of S1, some of S2) they don't even pretend it's not about Danny And Steve's Relationship Troubles. There are female love interests in the far, far, far background.

IDK. If H50 wasn't on CBS, I'd think they were just going to Go There with it.

There was a lot of fandom discussion during the first half of s01 that it wasn't a matter of if we were going to see Steve and Danny hook up, but when. And that it was on CBS was just downright shocking (although I'm not sure why, given the fabulosity that is The Good Wife).

Let's see:

Legal cases that don't completely suck and aren't run around.
Strong female character slowly taking control of her life.
Half a dozen other strong female characters.
Canon bisexual and gay characters who are not stereotypes.
Main female character receiving - on-screen(ish) - oral sex against a wall from a guy.

I'm not the best to proselytize, since that's not how I roll, but yes. It's worth seeing.
