I don't think that "doctor" is supposed to be capitalized unless it's being used like, "Look, Doctor, I don't care what you think, my leg hurts!" or something. I'm not really up on the capitalization of "doctor". This is most likely because whenever I refer to someone who has a doctorate in something, they usually have another title that I use, like, "history professor", which I end up using more often. Probably makes me monotonous, but I'd rather be monotonous and right instead of screwing up six ways from Sunday because of my use of "doctor".

As for Talon him/herself, the knee-jerk reaction came out loud and clear. You happen to like Doctor Who, but there is more to you than that, and I'm guessing Talon has only mostly heard about your happiness or displeasure with the show. As it stands, whenever you mentioned something that was even remotely close to the show, s/he reacted instead of taking a moment to think about what has happened in the IM objectively.

Personally, I thought Talon's assumption that your comments were ALLABOUTDOCTORWHOOMGWHATAPATHETICFANGIRL was stupid, and if I were braver, I would think of something appropriately scathing.

I've had a number of arguments where the other person assumed that all I was talking about was Subject A when I was actually making a point about Subject V, and when they wouldn't listen, I just gave it up as a lost cause because they'd already made up their mind that they were right because I was being stupid.

So, yeah, I can guess how you're feeling. *patpat*

Personally, I'm not up on the capitalization of "doctor", and Talon's assumption that it was all about Doctor Who and nothing else was erroneous and inflammatory. You weren't saying, "HAY THAIRS DOCTOR HOO!", you were talking about grammatical/capitalization errors, and Talon's automatic assumption is annoying. :P
