(no subject)

I just explained to Mum why I hate Twilight et al, and she told me that I was starting to sound like those people who hated Harry Potter because it has witchcraft.

Wot?

Crazy fundie fear of Satanic magic = not wanting young girls to think an emotional, insecure emo girl whose entire life revolves around the utterly perfect (read: batshit) man in her life who DARES TO LOVE HER is a good role model?

:/

Totally not the same thing

You should get your mom to read the book. My mom read it while she was on vacation, and now she totally understands why I am bitchy about it, and is in fact bitchy herself!

Meanwhile, you should try this book I'm reading now: The Disreputable History of Frankie Landau-Banks by E. Lockhart. I'm not done with it, so I suppose it could all fall apart in the last hundred pages, but so far, the protagonist, Frankie, is like the anti-Bella. And she's AWESOME.

It's totally different. I'm trying to read Twilight, but it's so fucking irritating. I might be able to take it as a book that I can make fun of, it a) little girls reading this didn't think was romantic and b) if Meyer stopped talking about how attractive Edward is EVERY FIVE FUCKIN' LINES. He's ghostly pale with bags under his eyes- that's not hot, that's him looking as creepy as he acts. Stalking you so he can redeem his monster-like impulses=/=romantic. Ugh, I hate Twilight...

Plus, Harry Potter, despite all it's flaws, has strong female characters like Hermoine, McGonagall, and Tonks. Twilight has Bella and a bunch of background female characters who keep telling her that what Edward's doing is romantic.

It's very different. There are many legitimate reasons to despise the Twilight series, especially Breaking Dawn. That book is absolutely disgusting.

Not the same thing at all. Did you explain about the sparkling vampires? Cuz that alone should be explanation enough.

Yup. I see a correlation there. *coff*

I've never read the Twilight books but I'm most likely going to watch the movie out of my shallow love for Robert Pattinson. Have no worries! I plan to heckle it through its entirety.
