NaNoWriMo needs a theme song. Someone email JoCo!

I'm getting really excited about NaNoWriMo this year. I have three different ideas for what I'd want to try out. One is Maggiolino, another is tentatively titled sic semper tyrannis, and the last is Long Way Down.

Maggiolino
Story told through the eyes of Alexander Leaven. She's a small town girl reluctantly pulled onto an East Coast road trip by her enigmatic, strange friend, Paloma Esposito. Driving across several states in a lovingly restored 1962 Volkswagon Beetle dubbed Maggiolino, they take in the world around them. They are joined by the eccentric musician-philosopher Derrick McCallum. The trio all have something to gain from their travels, discoveries, and each other.

Very, very character-centric. Each of the trio are very different and have complex relationships. Alex is sheltered, conflicted about her future, but fascinated with the world (and Paloma herself). Paloma is a sort of emotional mute- she never smiles and never laughs. She's caustic, sardonic, but occasionally very warm in her own way. Derek is a dreamer with a sort of reverence for the two girls after the let him join their travels when his motorcycle breaks down. He's sauve and compassionate and flirtatious, but always respectful.

(Inspired by Carbon Leaf's album Indian Summer, start to finish. Paloma's name is lifted from that. Was my NaNo two years ago, but I didn't know where I was going with it. I do now though.)

sic semper tyrannis
With the nation slowly slipping away, succumbing to the years of abuse the powerful have forced on it, a single woman decides to take action. Amelia "Amie" Follet uses a mercenary army to take control of America. A self-made benevolent dictator, Amie sets about fixing the world the best she can, restoring the country to a place of peace and fruition. Only one man knows how a single human is pulling it off. His name is Lance Rute, a journalist chosen by Amie to follow her and tell her story- the whole truth, the good and the bad. There's plenty good, like Amie restoring America's relationships with it's allies. There's plenty bad as well, such as when Amie personally executes one of her assassins.

It is a story about the perfect Machiavellian; Amie is a woman who pulls a fallen people up, a singular agent with no partners or comrades out of necessity. Because there is only one way her reign can end and she knows it.

(Key line: "I am the rise and fall of Rome all in one." Original idea by, if I recall correctly, [livejournal.com profile] flakygoddess and [livejournal.com profile] notpoetry, but twisted.)

Long Way Down
Ezirael is a junior angel sent down to earth when a field agent goes missing. His handler is Jophiel, a Throne who has spent so much time on earth, he's gone native, reading gossip rags, watching cheesy chick flicks, and generally ignoring his job. Zira gets little aid from him outside cryptic (albeit, always correct and relevant) advice.

Zira's mission is getting high school senior Sarah back on the good track. Sarah's meant to grow up as a goodwill merchant with a knack for miracle working. She is not receptive to the idea- she doesn't even believe in God, and convincing her to believe is just one problem. Convincing her that Heaven deserves her on their side is the issue. Cue self-questioning on Zira's part.

Unfortunately, Sarah's powers have already messed with the life of Damien, who she gave a miraculous power to create music after bumping into him on the street. He is searching desperately for her, to discover his purpose and the meaning of his life. His search leads Asmodai right to Sarah and Zira. He is a veteran demon who is thrilled to have an opportunity like Sarah. If only he could get rid of that self-righteous Zira....

(Originally intended to be a television series, but could maybe be molded into a book series?)

I'm stealing this from [livejournal.com profile] slodwick, who is, like me, thinking a lot about her NaNoWriMo story for this year.

Thus.

Comment with a prompt - two or three words, a mood or color, or even a song, if you want - and I'll try and write a short something to go with it. (Just to be clear: it probably won't be fannish.)

If you specifically want to see a scene from a certain story, lemme know.

Just in case you're still in the mood for a prompt --

Every day she wears the same thing
I think she smokes pot
She's everything I want
She's everything I'm not

...go. *grin*
