I'm only going to say this once
Last year I got asked about why I don't do/say anything about 9/11.
1. I don't where ya'll would see it. Not everything about me is shared online.
2. "Patriot Day", as we apparently call it, has had a frustratingly Christian bent every single year it's happened. And I am not a Christian, and I really fucking resent the idea that I have to sit and listen to that to feel like a part of this country. 9/11 means a lot of things to me, many not good, and I am self-aware enough to know this is not the time to share my complicated thoughts on the topic.
In short, this is not a holiday created for people like me, so I don't bother. If it helps ya'll remember, that's fine, but leave me out of it.

And it's a throw-back to how thoughtless and jingoistic the whole country was directly after the event.

Well put. I have similar problems with the memorials.
