Okay, I need another honest opinion, and this one's got me in an emotional bind. Under the cut is a chat transcript with yelling. I just want to know if I was in the wrong.

It starts off like this: I'm reading over Talon's post at the RP board.


Luce: "The Doctor"?
Talon:: ... Fwuh?
Luce: You write that a few times.
Talon:: -___-*
Luce: Or is it you typoing over and over?
Talon:: Not every Doctor is a "Doctor"!
Talon:: Gigantic biomech of doom!
Talon:: Don't you think they'd have a few people with DOCTORATES working on it?
Luce: Talon. You capitalized "doctor"!
Luce: When referring to someone with a doctorate who isn't a Time Lord, you don't cap it.
Talon:: Yes you do, if you're referring to someone who actually IS a Doctor!
Talon:: Look: There are no "Time Lords" in this RPG, okay?
Luce: No, you don't. You put "the doctor said".
Luce: I'm just betaing!
Talon:: You're just being annoying.
Luce: Oh for fuck.... why are you assuming I'm trying to tick you off and am not just, you know, correcting you?
Talon:: We already have one Doctor Time Lord RPG. I'm not making another because one, I hate it, and two, you deserve to have fun with yours.
Talon:: Without me parodying it or something like that.
Luce: That's not my point! I'm just saying you made grammatical errors that normally wouldn't matter, but since one of the RPers goes by the proper form.... it causes problems.
Talon:: (beats his head against the table)
Luce: That is, really, all I am saying.
Talon:: No, it doesn't, because there are no Time Lords in this RPG.
Talon:: AND THERE NEVER WILL BE!
Luce: I KNOW, GODDAMNIT!
Talon:: Okay, okay, I'm sorry.
Luce: Fuck it, go through your life making grammatical errors,
Talon:: (sweatdrop) Allright then...
Talon:: I'm sorry.
Talon:: However, why do you think I'd put a Time Lord into an RPG where all the action is happening in ONE PLACE?
Talon:: And time?
Luce: 'Cause I was skimming to find out if I was interested in RPing and it jumped out at me.
Talon:: My God, you're obsessed.
Luce: Oh, sod off, I'm not the mecha fanboy.
Talon:: I am. And I'm proud to be one.
Luce: If I cap'ed "EVA" in "EVAluate" in a post, you'd notice.
Talon:: (rolls his eyes) No, because I'm not a loony fangirl.
Luce: *doesn't believe that for a second*
Talon:: Tough, it's the truth.
Luce: (Oi, you have no character sheet...)
Talon:: That's because this is more of a writing RPG than a character RPG.
Luce: *sighs* *makes whistling sound*
Luce: Point whistled right over ya.
Talon:: This is an RPG using established characters in fandom.
Luce: *whistle*
Talon:: My fellow anime fans will get it.
Talon:: Just because you don't doesn't mean nobody else will.
Luce: Okay, I'm going to ignore you now.
Talon:: It's the truuuuuth...
Talon:: TrrruuuuUUUUuuuuuuthhh...
Luce: It's not the fucking point!
Talon:: TrrruuuuuuUUUUUUuuuutthhhhhhhh!
Luce: I just meant that EVERYONE is making the damn things before they start RPing. If you wanna make an RP that doesn't apply to the character sheet, fine, but you still have to make one. It stops people from setting the 'perfect' powers before joining the RP they want.
Talon:: ... It's an established fandom, and story.
Talon:: With established limits.
Talon:: And established characters.
Luce: Then don't use that character sheet for that specific RP!
Talon:: ESTABLISHED.
Talon:: CHARACTERS.
Luce: NOT WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT! I'M NOT ASKING YOU TO USE THE CHARACTER SHEET IN YOUR DAMN FANDOM-BASED RP!
Talon:: But I'm not appearing in it.
Talon:: That's the point.
Luce: I don't care!
Luce: Fuck, you can avoid the point like Solid Snake.
Talon:: What is the point then, oh all-knowing Who?
Luce: You still need to set up a sheet. Let's pretend there are no RPs yet. One of the first things you do when joining an RP forum it set up a sheet.
Talon:: ... In what universe did you read this?
Luce: *headdesk* It was the same rules at the last forum. i thought it was obvious.
Talon:: Yes, I'm SO insulted by the "obvious" ploy, despite the fact that THAT only applies to RPGs where the players actually create new characters!
Talon:: Who have super powers, BTW!
Luce: Oh, forget it. You're not worth it. *goes back to her work*
Talon:: God woman, you're an idiot.
Talon:: (throws up his hands)

Talon:: You're saying that an RPG that has NO RELATION WHATSOEVER to your current obsession is confusing because it has references to "Doctors".

Talon:: "Doctor, can you help set my leg please?"
Talon:: "Doctor, look over here!"
Luce: THAT is using the noun as a name.

Talon:: "Doctor, this patient's being a bitch!"
Talon:: I WAS USING THE NOUN AS A TITLE DAMNIT!
Talon:: You know, like "Sir", "Ma'am", "General"...
Luce: NOT ALL THE TIME!
Talon:: ALL THE TIME?! HOW?
Luce: Looking now.
Luce: Hey, you do it all the time in this post.
Luce: "Um, Commander, I'm afraid I'm a bit detained at the moment..." the Girl began.
Luce: One example.
Luce: "Hi! I'm Rei, What's your name?" She asked Cheerfully.
Luce: Cap prob.
Talon:: Okay fine! Sorry, geez!
Talon:: But considering the context of the RPG, I thought it would be fricking obvious that there's NO DOCTOR WHO!
Talon:: NO TIME LORDS!
Luce: ... You lecture me for fifteen fucking minutes for nothing and you're sorry? Where do you get off?

Talon:: No, I was screaming at you because it sounded like you were bitching me out for using the word "Doctor" in a post that doesn't have Doctor Who in it.
Talon:: I misunderstood.
Luce: And you were wrong.
Talon:: Fine, I was wrong.
Luce: Now. Are we done?

I don't think that "doctor" is supposed to be capitalized unless it's being used like, "Look, Doctor, I don't care what you think, my leg hurts!" or something. I'm not really up on the capitalization of "doctor". This is most likely because whenever I refer to someone who has a doctorate in something, they usually have another title that I use, like, "history professor", which I end up using more often. Probably makes me monotonous, but I'd rather be monotonous and right instead of screwing up six ways from Sunday because of my use of "doctor".

As for Talon him/herself, the knee-jerk reaction came out loud and clear. You happen to like Doctor Who, but there is more to you than that, and I'm guessing Talon has only mostly heard about your happiness or displeasure with the show. As it stands, whenever you mentioned something that was even remotely close to the show, s/he reacted instead of taking a moment to think about what has happened in the IM objectively.

Personally, I thought Talon's assumption that your comments were ALLABOUTDOCTORWHOOMGWHATAPATHETICFANGIRL was stupid, and if I were braver, I would think of something appropriately scathing.

I've had a number of arguments where the other person assumed that all I was talking about was Subject A when I was actually making a point about Subject V, and when they wouldn't listen, I just gave it up as a lost cause because they'd already made up their mind that they were right because I was being stupid.

So, yeah, I can guess how you're feeling. *patpat*

Personally, I'm not up on the capitalization of "doctor", and Talon's assumption that it was all about Doctor Who and nothing else was erroneous and inflammatory. You weren't saying, "HAY THAIRS DOCTOR HOO!", you were talking about grammatical/capitalization errors, and Talon's automatic assumption is annoying. :P

I was kinda in love with him for a long time. And we start off talking happily and fine before this shit happens. He can be really nice. And he can be a mean sonvabitch who makes me cry. *shrugs* But I loved him.

It's been two years. Our arguements were so fantastic, we tore apart our writing group. Everyone's trying to get back together for a reunion, so everyone's chatting again. And apparently Talon and I are like gasoline and fire.

Grammatical notations aside I feel I should address the character card issue.

While in fact it is good ettiquite to place a character card before an Rp after joining the forums, we never made it a rule. We can politely suggest it but if we made it a rule now it'd just be rude really.

He is writeing an RP involving specific characters, to my understanding he plans only on useing said characters, powers, universe and so on. If anyone joins the RP then they would have to do the same and not use the whole new character type.

I myself am not a meccha fan, I hope someone in our boards is because if no one joins his game it'd be more of a fanfiction.


To reitterate though, as we never made it a rule at the start Talon doesn't have to make a card if he doesn't want to, though it would be nice of him.
