luciazephyr: Book of the Still, the time traveler's lifeline (Default)

I'm going through a Scissor Sisters renaissance, listening to Ta-Dah from start to finish and just marveling at how wonderful the songs are and noticing all the quirks of Jake's voice. *happy sigh*

And I typed this sucker up too:
UK Playlist - 18 December 2006

Firstly, this mix is not really representative of Scissor Sisters' musical influences or anything. But it is a collection of songs that I've found myself listening to lately and always. The majority of it is reflective and a bit melancholy, but don't let that put you off. Secondly, these are all amazing songs. -Jake
1. "Patriot's Hearts", American Music Club
I first heard this song sung by Justin Bond doing Kiki and Herb on Broadway. The lyrics are what stand out most on this song.

2. "She's Your Baby", Ween
One of the most prolific, underrated, and ignored bands of our time. This song captures so much of what makes Ween not only great musicians, but amazing songwriters.

3. "Western Hero", Neil Young
Neil Young has never written a bad album, or probably a bad song for that matter.

4. "It Beats 4 U", My Morning Jacket
Took me a while to check these guys out, and I'm so glad I did. "It Beats 4 U" is a dizzying, trippy exercise in epic-ness.

5. "Dark Star", Beck
A man whose music makes my eyes bleed with jealousy. The Information is his best album in years. This song makes me want to suck down some Nyquil and pretend I'm a planet.

6. "Without You", David Bowie
My favorite Bowie song of all time. I'll never get sick of it.

7. "That's Us/Wild Combination", Arthur Russell
A late genius whose catalog is expansive and exciting. This song was the one that got his hooks in me first. Strangely enough, it reminds me a little of Graceland-era Paul Simon.

8. "The Bridge", Dolly Parton
Possibly one of the most depressing songs ever written.

9. "No Use in Crying", The Rolling Stones
Equally depressing, but interesting because I have my suspicious that the Stones were listening to a bit of Prince at the time. Evidence is in the vocal production.

10. "Call the Law", OutKast
A difficult album, but this song I like. Maybe one day we'll sit back and realize this record was just way too ahead of its time or something.

11. "Don't Worry Baby", The Beach Boys
Roll credits.
