May. 7th, 2008 04:28 pmHey folks! Action alert!
The GI Bill is coming up tomorrow! That's the bill that'll boost college benefits for vets and help deal with some of the red tape that sometimes takes those benefits away.
You should really take a few seconds to call your reps to see how they're voting.
The IAVA has a page here that will automatically give you the numbers for your representatives. This page will show up if your congressfolk have already signed on to it. Compare the lists and call anyone who is not on the second and ask them why they aren't supporting it.
I just called my guy, Ike Skelton, because he was missing from the list and got a nice bit of info from the worker there. He said that: a- My rep is on the committee dealing with the bill, so he won't co-sponsor it (though he's never expressed anything against the bill, so yay). And b- the vote might not happen tomorrow after all. The GI Bill may be added as an amendment to the latest war funding bill that'll be voted on late this week or early next week.
And the guy I spoke to was really nice about it and patiently explaining things. huge kudos.
