luciazephyr: Book of the Still, the time traveler's lifeline (Default)

The Scissor Sisters are five crazy-talented individuals who came together to make some totally awesome and catchy music.

Word of advice- there are a metric ton of pics under this cut. I suggest opening it in a new tab, go surf for a few minutes, then come back to see. Also, most of the pics are DVD caps and are biiiiig.
The Band:

More specifically, they are (left to right): Paddy Boom (drums), Del Marquis (guitar), Jake Shears (lead vocals (except when he's not)), Ana Matronic (vocals), and Babydaddy (guitar, keyboard, vocals).

Del, Babydaddy, and Jake are quite gay. Ana is straight, but often refers to herself as "a gay man in a woman's body" and claims "I can be more of a f***** than any of the boys". This is incredibly true. Paddy, though, he's their token straight man. Funny story: I didn't know this until a few months ago. I mean, not to stereotype but... :points: That does not look straight to me, how about you?

I mean, really.

Band: [all talking about boys and how ghey they are]
Paddy: I feel like I'm being falsely included here.
Jake: Paddy does look the gayest in pictures though.
[...]
Host: Not having met any of you before today, I have to say you do seem the gayest.
Paddy: :refutes this by.... groping the host:

There is a cute segment in the "How the Band Got Together" documentary about how Paddy loves being the one straight man because when he was in a band with other guys, there'd be competition for the chicks, but when he joined the Scissor Sisters... well. :)

Paddy is cute and surprisingly funny.

Babydaddy is Pure Awesome. He plays multiple instruments, he produces, he (along with Jake and sometimes Ana) writes the music, and he is adorable.

In live shows, you can really hear his voice and it's changes the sound of the vocals a lot. I adore it.

Every time I see him, I want to hug him. He's a teddy bear! :D

Despite Jake's frontman status, Babydaddy seems to be the band's leader. He has an extremely calm presence and appears to be an anchor of sorts. He is awesome.

My favorite though...

... has gotta be Del.

I didn't fall in love with him until I saw the concert a few times and started watching him. He fucking jams, man. His solos are amazing and when he steps up, he owns the show. But you'll see more of that in the next section. :D

Interesting fact: Del originally haaaaated the band, back when it was Babydaddy, Jake (who Del only know as "the stripper"), and Ana. Hated the music. I'm sure having a kick-ass guitarist like Del lifted the band up significantly.

Ana Matronic. I think anyone who isn't totally in love with her is crazy.

Ana does vocals and is, according to the wiki, the "Mistress of Ceremonies". She pretty much runs the concerts with her intros and awesome little monologues and sexual abuse of Jake in the middle of the stage.

I don't know if it's blasphemy to think so, but I think the best song on Ta-Dah was "Kiss You Off". And the music video was irhgijtgbdja omg amazing.

And then there's Jake Shears. Where do you start with a guy like him.

Mr. Shears is fucking fearless. Have you ever heard someone say that the Sisters are one of the best concert bands ever? He's probably why.

From what I've gathered anecdotally, if you go to a Sisters concert, there's probably a good 50 to 60% chance you're going to get to see Jake in some state of nekkidness. I don't think he's human because he belts out every note of every song like his life's on the life. He runs around the stage like he's doing distance training. He's nuts.

And he's such a cutie.

Intermission:
Want some music videos? See, I have both the Sisters' DVDs so I have access to some nice high quality versions of their awesome videos. The only one I don't have is "Filthy/Gorgeous" which fills me with woe. Anyone who's seen it knows why.

Anyway. Here are my three favorites, uploaded to imeem for some high quality viewing pleasure. If you want to see any others, lemme know.

Land of a Thousand Words (or: The Bond Rip-Off Starring the Dread Pirate Shears and a lot of silhouetted boobies.)

She's My Man (or: Jesus Christ, this Band is a Bunch of Dorks)

Kiss You Off (or: Ana is Sparklier than a SMeyer Vampire, Mirrors are Awesome, and How the Hell Does He Pull Off a Plastic Trenchcoat?)

Note: There seems to be video glitches in the first seconds of the videos. To fix this, scroll down until the video is off the window. Scroll back and it should be fine.

The Concert:
My main reasons in doing this post is to make ya'll wanna go buy this DVD. It is amazingly awesome. I've watched the concert way too much and it fills me with joy and extreme envy for all those lucky bastards in the UK.

Sorry for blurriness. The band's always moving, so no shot is 100% clear, but I usually got what I wanted.

At the end of "I Can't Decide", Del and Jack always do a little dance together. ♥

ain't no tits on the radio, no, no

I consider "Contact High" to be foreplay. It has Jake doing naughty things to his mic stand...

... and Del and Jake doing a hot little strut-off.

Del fights him off with some fancy moves tho.

And then they check each other out.

I love this band.

"Comfortably Numb" has Del being a bad-ass mother fucker and Jake with a feather cape.

I have such a soft spot for "Might Tell You Tonight". It's so romantic. :3

And then... the show-stopper. "Filthy/Gorgeous".

I'm not sure who I'm more jealous of here. I wish I knew how to make .gifs tho because Jake pretty much performs fellatio on the mic, and it's... a sight to see.

After the concert is "over", Jake comes back out. See, Paddy's mother died and he was away during the final days of the concert. Jake, Del, and their keyboardist JJ Gardens do a very emotional performance of "Mary" for Paddy and his late mother.

damn, boyo

It's about here that I begin to Get the Jake love. Damn those perpetually wide blue eyes. I want to hug him.

That's the show! Go home, folks!

jk, jk. You think you wouldn't get "I Don't Feel Like Dancing" at a Sisters concert?

This version of the song is fabulous. Everyone is having fun.

This is where I fell hard for Del Marquis.

He doesn't even have a mic. No one can hear him. But he's singing along. I cannot tell you how much I adore this.

He's your semi-regular reminder that Jake Shears is a former stripper.

That's a skintone, bejeweled spandex.... I don't even know what to call that. But Jake runs around, shaking his ass in it.

Ana closes the show...

And Jake flashes the audience on his way out.

Oh, yeah, baby. I love these people.

A super-special treat:
After days of fighting to figure out how, I managed to do it. I proudly present:

Scissor Sisters at the O2, audio ripped right from the performance. .mp3, 19 tracks. You won't find this anywhere else.

Keep in mind, I still hugely endorse everyone to pick up Hurrah: A Year of Ta-Dah, the DVD all this came from. It is fabulous and has the full hour-and-a-half long concert, an hour-long documentary of the Sisters' European tour, all four Ta-Dah videos, an awesome acoustic gig, and more. It's amazing.

All the screencaps (and tons more) can be found in this gallery. I can't provide sources for all the promo pics- I've had them from since I began keeping track of where I DLed pics from. All caps nabbed by me, feel free to take and use.

My point in making this mammoth post? You should really try this band out. You will not be disappointed. Their songs and full of heart and humor. They are awesome people and will rock your world. I am eternally grateful to [livejournal.com profile] scrunchy for hooking me up to their tunes in the first place.

And that's all.

PS: By way, this post included:
[81] pics
[3] videos
[19] very, very special goodies zipped in a SendSpace link

I call this an Epic Victory.

ETA: Dudes, I just found really hilarious trailers for the DVD that portray like a movie about "five sisters on a journey to find something they lost" and it is lolarious.

Oh, Del. Worrying about pantylines. :3
