Aaaahhhhh so much love for origific! I am huge fan of urban fantasy, but it's hard to find stuff that handles magic well. This sounds utterly fantastic.

I LOVE Alistair already. Grumpy mages are the best, I feel like hugging him while he no doubt squawks in protest. It also sounds like he'll have some epic banter with Tracy and Donovan. (It might be my fangirl slash goggles influencing me, but I'm looking at Misha and Fassbender and going... yeah, that'd be hot.) It seems funny to me that you're so worried that people won't like him, considering how popular characters like House and Snape are.... :>

The idea of Tracy as a Baddass Normal, however, is probably what sold this story to me. Badass normals are the best! Xander from Buffy; Rory Williams from Doctor Who; half the main characters of Firefly; Sam Gamgee from Lord of the Rings... Oh god, I know there are more but my brain is blanking.

Ooh and a gender-fluid Donovan? Awesome! Jonquil's movie theatre ghost? ALSO AWESOME.

I think you shouldn't worry yourself about MoC. I'm sure your readers understand that circumstances have changed since you first promised the hiatus would end! And frankly, considering how much I loved The Stars and Scones Bakery fic-- and you as a writer-- I'd be pleased as punch if you feel like writing anything, whether it's Dresden or origific or something else. :>
