OKAY OKAY UM! SHIT.

ANYONE OUT THERE WITH CATS

Okay. Okay, fuck. Um.

Okay. *breathe* My cat's ear is swelled. That inside skin of the ear is huge and pink. Like a bubble, kinda? But like it could burst.

We gave her some old amoxillin, but Chris says it may be a hematoma according to the Google.

Has anyone had personal experience with this?

I looked up cat ears and hematoma, and though I have no personal experience with it, it sounds like it's more discomfort for the cat than pain, but that it will need to be drained by a vet, either with a needle or by cutting and suturing.

Anyway, don't panic. It sounds like a relatively common thing, which has to be treated, but which isn't going to cause your cat's head to explode.

*breathing into paper bag* What's really fucking annoying is that in my area, we only have one trustworthy vet and he won't be open until Monday.

My cat has had something like that and it really needs to be drained by a vet. It could a) get infeccted which leads to teh cat needing shots and that's a pain in the ass or b) the bubble exploting whic is messy and painful.
BUT, DON'T PANIC. It's not something to worry to much. My kitty was ok after I took him to the vet and he drained the thing and give him a shot. So, it's ok. Breathe and hugs?

Aww..again, breathe. It's not something that needs to be taken care like now. If you just noticed it means it's new, so the cat will be ok. Also, you'll be o.k..my cat is and he had it a while back. *offer's big cup of steaming tea*

Yuck! No, haven't had that happen yet. How is the cat otherwise? Energetic, appetite OK? If she is normal in all other respects, she's probably basically fine. I wouldn't poke around in her ear though. Let a professional do that.

She's not happy about having a balloon for an ear, but... she's okay.

*points up* What the others said- needs to be seen by a vet but it's not dire. At most it'll be a little gross, and if you've only noticed now I don't think it'll do much harm to wait until Monday.

Major sympathies for the sick kitty- it's always scary when there's something wrong that you don't know how to fix.

I concur. Fido (pictured here) was being sick all last weekend, which is not like him at all. He's basically fine, but of course they can't TELL you what hurts or whether or not they're sick.

Sorry, I was kind of busy deleting it as fast as I could as this is a public post.

You realize, come Monday, I'm gonna hit you. Just fair warning.

Once upon a time, when Pixel (half-Chow mix) was still alive, he had a hematoma in his ear because Meg (our German Shepherd mix) bit him on the ear when he went for the water bowl before she was done.

Discomfort yes -- we could never tell if he was in pain or not -- but the vet is the way to go.

It's okay. Your kitty won't die.

Will we get pictures of the kitty after the hematoma is dealt with?

I'm fairly sure the kitty is a bit creepy with the hematoma in her ear, but I'm just curious about what she looks like.

You don't have to take pictures if you don't want to.

I have no camera with batteries right now. I'm just not used to people wanting pics of my cats. They're... cats. *puzzle*

Well, yeah, they're cats, but I'm always curious about what kind of pets everyone has. I used to have four dogs here at the house (one of them died of cancer, and the other had to be put down), so I'm just curious about other pets.

And I'm still eying Stephen, and seeing if he might make a good kitty.

She's coming home tomorrow. *frets* We were supposed to have her back yesterday, but the Doc wanted her longer.
