The AFI-Listing-Dudes fscks up again.
Jun. 23rd, 2004 10:58 amGod, so many memories....
For those living under a rock, AFI (American Film Institute) had their "100 Years...100 Songs" TV special. They listed the top 100 movie songs. My entire family is made up of movie buffs, so we have loads of fun.
What stood out... *thinks* Well, the biggest mistake they made was what should have been #20 was #100. Yep, the most well known part of Ricky Business was #100. What a crime.
For you idiot- I mean... clueless people out there, the best part of Risky Business (argueably Tom Cruise's coolest movie) was when he was all alone at home and he dressed in his tighty-whiteys and his oversized button-up shirt and rocked out to Old Time Rock and Roll. Come ON! Who doesn't see that in their mind's eye when they hear it?
Anyone even think The Odd Couple and I'll kill them with a butter knife, I swear to God. *flinches at the memory*
Moving on...
Hakuna Matata was #99. *hears golf claps* I thought it'd be a bit higher, but that's me.
Now my main complaint: All That Jazz for Chicago came in at only #98. THE HELL!? That song was the greatest! Fantastic. *growls* And don't get me started on how the Cell Block Tango was not even on the list.
Let's continue.... #97... didn't know it. #96 was Footloose-
Question: How did those deprived kids suddenly learn all those dance moves in 2.5 seconds? Curious.
#93 was Lose Yourself from 8 Mile. Like the song okay, never saw the movie.
OMG! #89 was Puttin' On the Ritz from Fred Astaire (reprised by Mel Brooks as everyone knows! *giggles* Gene Wilder rocks.)! I love that song! *tapdances* Seeing it done by Astaire.... is magic. He was/is known as the biggest perfectionist in Hollywood. God bless him.
*flips through the list* Hmm.... Disney films.... The Sound of Music.... Wizard of Oz...
Ah! Mel Brooks got what he deserved at #80! Anyone who saw The Producers knows the hit song; Springtime for Hitler.
For you idiots out there: The two main characters in The Producers figured out if they made a show that completely bombed, they'd get tons of money. So they made a gay WW2 play, thinking it's gonna be a disgrace = more money for them. The main song was Springtime for Hitler.
Yeah. You'd have to see it to fully understand it.
#74 was the Muppet Movie, Rainbow Connection. *shrugs*
#70 was Summer Nights for Grease. Fun Fact: According to a poll, Grease is the numero uno chick flick.
Ah! #66 is Suidice Is Painless for M*A*S*H*! (what, you thought Quatre was kidding? Those are the lyrics!)
Mom loved #62. Beauty and the Beast from... well, if you don't know, you don't deserve to be told.
*smiles* #60 was When Harry Met Sally and It had To Be You. That's right. Remember with me in the deli when she faked it. *laughs* "I'll have what she's having."
#58 was Rocky's I'm Gonna Fly Now. Like you didn't already know it was on the countdown.
Yes! #55! Flashdance! No comments needed for THAT!
Next was Shall We Dance from the King and I. Watch that scene, OMG. They don't dance. He dances her across the floor. Mom loves that scene. She's got a thing for men like that. Damned if I understand it.
#50 was Rock Around the Clock. I never even knew it was in a movie! ^.^' Blackboard Jungle was the movie BTW.
One I want to rent: Guys and Dolls for the song at #42 Luck Be a Lady. Sounds awesome. Anyone got the mp3, send it to me.
#36! Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious! Yay! Remember when she said it backwards really fast? That was cool!
West Side Story..... Born To Be Wild.... AH!
#27. Everyone must see this scene.... Unchained Melody, movie Ghost. Just watch the scene. Or, next time you're in Art Class and using a pottery wheel. Whistle or hum the song. Watch your teacher for a reaction.
#19... *refrains for ranting* Someday My Prince Will Come from Snow White. Hated her voice, I really did.
#14 was My Heart Will Go On from Titanic. Best part of that stupid movie was the boat sinking. Didn't like the song either. Hate sappy romance songs.
OMG! #12 was Diamonds Are a Girl's Best Friend for Gentlemen Prefer Blondes/Moulin Rouge! If you don't know it, you really must live under a rock. Monroe at her prime.
One of my favorites was #9 and had me dancing all night. Ya know that one about how I use my walk. I'm a woman's man with no time to talk. Yep folks, John Travolta strutted onto this list here with Stayin' Alive, baby! *takes a few minutes to rock out- erm. Disco out*
#6. *just starts laughing* This song was brillant for the movie. The Graduate, Mrs. Robinson. Tell me it wasn't sexy, I dare you.
*growls* What should of been #1 was #3. Gene Kelly, Singin' In the Rain. *smiles* That was a beautiful scene.
#2 probably deserves it just for perfect usage of the song. As Time Goes On from Casablanca.
Fun Fact: Casablanca was named the best Romance Film by AFI a few years back.
*breaks things* Words cannot describe how much I hate #1. God bless Judy Garland, but I hated Somewhere Over the Rainbow. I never liked the beat, lyrics, anything. I have nothing else to say on the topic.
Well, that's my rather lenghty report on the top 100 movie songs. Hope you enjoyed it.
Puttin' on the Ritz,
