I just watched the first episode of Dexter since Mum rented the DVD on a whim.

Holy shit. Michael Hall will always be the nice, kinda unhinged gay guy on Six Feet Under to me (with the awesome cop boyfriend) but... God, Dexter is fascinating. I'm totally disgusted by what he is, but he's so damn compelling and his inner monologue is so amiable... It's all so confusing. :so very torn:

I think I really need to grab the book. (I think it was a book first, right?)

And, talking to Mum about it, I realized that Dexter is basically Shawn Spencer, but more fucked up. Which makes me want crossover fic. Someone must have already written it though.

Yay Dexter! I just got all caught up on it myself. Fascinating is definitely the right word. I adore Michael C. Hall.

There are three books! Darkly Dreaming Dexter, Dearly Devoted Dexter, and Dexter in the Dark (which I am reading right now). The books are really good too.

I'm gonna buy the first two books. The third, according to the wiki, has a bad case of Indigo Prophesy Syndrome. But the first two sound good. :D

DEXTEEEER! YES!

There've been several fannish conversations about this same idea. It's like the same people (including the dads), but in alternate universes. Dexter is Bizarro Shawn.

I'd love to read a well-conceived crossover of this. Mostly because I think Shawn would be completely unable to peg Dexter as the bad guy. I mean... Okay, one thing that blow my mind about Dexter is that he is so hilariously not genuine, but no one seems to notice (except that one guy, I haven't learned names yet). But because Dexter is so blank, I dunno if Shawn would stand a chance against him.

It'd just be really interesting.

Mmmm, Dexter. I didn't expect to become as obsessed with that show as I have. I held onto my Dexter LJ header for a long time, too.

Which makes me want crossover fic. Someone must have already written it though.

Actually, good Dexter fanfics are few and far between. I think because the show leaves you so satisfied, people tend not to see holes to fill or things to expand upon. There is definitely room for crossovers, though!

Oh I love Dexter! The show is going into it's 3rd season this fall and this preview (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EHMvvd6hyUE) is awesome (no spoilers).

There was a Psych AU based on Dexter which was interesting. I think the name of it was "The Santa Barbara Butcher," but I'm not sure where I saw it.

HaHA! Found it! It's here (http://www.fanfiction.net/s/3992165/1/Dark_Passenger), in the Pit of Voles. Haven't actually read it yet, just dropping a line in case anybody is still interested.

Okay, finished it. Not bad. Not happy, either, rather dark, and some general OOC-ness, but compared to the amount of utter shit that I've found in the Psych fandom so far? Not bad at all. :) It's Shawn/Lassiter, just so you know. I'm not sure I could recommend it, since it's pretty dark and the show itself is so light, but if anybody wants to read it I'm not going to talk them out of it.

Dexter is amazing. I love the first two books and the TV series. I would definitely recommend reading the books too.

Don't bother with the books, they're awful. All the nice little twists in the plot of the show are almost exclusivly devised to cover the massive plot holes in the book and the big twist of series one is obvious after about 20 pages of the book. And the prose is so purple it looks like it's choking.

I finished reading in morbid fascination then started on the second for the same reason and almost threw it off a train because it was so badly written. The first chapter few pages are the biggest failure of the "and then i got off the bus" paradigm i' ve ever had the misfortune to come across. And I review stand up.
