Barack Obama, you fucking idiot.

When McCain lies about what your plan is, you don't laugh and say softly "That's not true" and let him keep going.

You fucking call him out. You say the words, "John McCain, you are a liar."

You lost this debate. You lost it because you let him yell over you and you wouldn't talk over him. This was not a time to be polite, you idiot.

And as for myself? I am so angry at John McCain, I am shaking. John McCain doesn't give a flying fuck about the veterans. The fact that he brought them up like that at the end- I cannot handle how angry that made me.

I think the thing that is most maddening is the "Oh, he can't get angry because then he becomes a scary angry black man!" excuse. Anyone who would actually think that nonsense NEVER WOULD HAVE VOTED FOR HIM IN THE FIRST PLACE.

Kudos on the veterans thing. As a veteran, it makes me ill to see McCain try to claim that he's this bastion of support for veterans when his voting record on veteran's issues is shit.

And don't even get me started on that ridiculous bracelet shit. Obama should have said, "You know what? I have a bracelet given to me too. And it has absolutely NOTHING to do with what we're talking about. You're just tugging on people's heart strings for sympathy because you have nothing of substance to say on this issue.

I believe the proper adjective that describes my mood is seething.

I heard that perception on the radio this morning and I tend to believe it. Living on the Left Coast, we are not designed to think that way. We don't get scared when we see a black man asserting himself. Unfortunately, such is not the case in the rest of the country. People STILL think that way. We haven't come as far was we should, and that's a shame. Obama had to appeal to those white Americans who are scared and want some reassurance. I have a story... this Jewish lady, a friend of my parents, was telling me how scared she was of McCain, but also saying that she was TERRIFIED of Obama. She was not scared because of this perceived lack of experience, but she was scared because of what black people would do should he become president. She actually thought that black people would try to exact revenge for the hundreds of years of oppression. I had to talk her down without calling her a prejudiced cow. It was hard...

As for the debate, I think Obama pulled it off. McCain came off as someone who missed a few meetings of his anger management classes. Smirking, refusing to make eye contact even though that was part of the debate rules...

Obama won, hands down.

I personally can't wait to hear the excuse the McCain campaign will use to stop the VP debate from taking place. If it does take place, it is going to be the single, greatest piece of television in the history of man.

I think that old Jewish lady's grandkids should go watch some Sarah Silverman (NSFW language) regarding just this:

(here via [livejournal.com profile] ontd_political, hope you don't mind.

As much as I'm optimistic about the outcome of the debate, with Obama coming out of it looking a lot better than McCain, I do feel it was a failure on his part, not getting in McCain's face on a lot of points.

He needed to have more moments like when he aggressively mentioned that McCain wouldn't even meet with Spain. Obama is definitely treading a little too lightly. Though, for foreign policy supposedly being McCain's strong point, Obama held his ground quite well.

Dude, you are so welcome here. I was tempted to friend you after peeking at your pretty icons.

The one good thing I can say that came out of this debate... tomorrow, we're going to be talking about the economy again. And now Obama knows what he has to do in the next debate.

I wouldn't mind at all; I need more people for political/fake news squee, as I am sadly lacking.

Indeed! Though I thought I heard in one of the post-debate analysis (what's the plural of analysis? Analyse?) is that the economy would be the last debate?

I'm an RPF writer. Is that a problem?

Indeed! \o/ And the post-debate coverage is lessening my pessimism about the debate. I still think Obama should have called McCain out, but that is partly because McCain DOESN'T CARE ABOUT VETS. And I am a member of the IAVA. Feel my wrath.

Psh, I'm a fic writer and I got my start in fake news fic ;-) (I was actually very recently compelled to re-enter the fandom since I've been away for a long, long time. I blame the conventions and the Emmys.) RPF is so not a prob.

Yep! Keith and Anderson's little panel did some fab work (when some of the panelists weren't being sort of douchey) and Rachel was made of win, as per usual, and I'm just relieved that the media isn't overlooking a ton of points like they usually do. In particular, Keith noticing that McCain basically admitted that the US uses torture.

Re: McCain "cares" about vets, ugh, that made me sick to my stomach. I hate that he thinks he can get away with using his military record to say he cares about veterans, but what I hate even more is that I doubt anyone's going to call him on his shit :/

I just friended you and put you on my RPF filter. Just in case you were interested. :D

Keith bringing up the torture thing... I was so proud of him. I was so glad I wasn't the only one going "did.... did he just admit to it?" And Rachel pointing out that debates are decided on the soundbites helped me calm down. McCain may have talked over Obama a lot and cut him off, but the soundbites are gonna be "Obama doesn't understand" and Obama listing off all the things McCain was wrong about. That is good for us.

Srsly. I want Jim Webb to walk on stage and kick McCain in the nuts.

Whee, of course I am ^__^ Added you!

Word. And I think if anyone actually makes a montage of all the times McCain cut him off and was generally an unprofessional little git and actually shows it on new networks, people's opinions might sway even more in Obama's favor.

Wow. I totally watched a different debate than you. I thought Obama did great. He also seemed far more gracious and presidential. And I'm very glad to see that those polled felt the same way. In the CNN polls, Obama won in every single category, including those over the age of 50 and women by really big margins.

Obama wasn't the one behind going in to this debate. McCain was. He should have done far better than he did, and he didn't. Obama won this hands down.

i thought obama did very well. this was the one debate that mccain could have won and it wouldn't have hurt us because this is clearly supposed to be his strong suit. that said, best he could claim in a petulant tie. fuck, he wouldn't even look at obama out of fear that he would dive across the isle and throttle obama giving up his terrible temper.

cnn polls show obama winning with women and older voters, and independent voters i think would be much more drawn to the persona obama presented than the asshat devient jerkbag mccain always is.

i'm sure my personal opinions weigh heavily into my belief that obama won, but let me just say that i was going to vote for him this afternoon, and am only more proud to do so after his first debate performance.
