I pity any human being that does not have Ani DiFranco's Carnegie Hall live album. She does to a guitar what Ben Folds does to a piano (I've heard it indelicately described thus: "if anyone could figure out how to rape a piano, it'd be Ben Folds") and even when she is speaking normally, it sounds like singing. I have never heard someone speak with that kind of cadence. It's beautiful.

Speaking of live music, I got a question, since I'm in the middle of two or three fanmixes.

I have twice used live versions of Ani's song's on Fanmix's. The only thing I ever did to one was cut a conversation from the end of Overlap because it took something from the flow of the mix.

I've used live versions of songs in several mixes, I don't really see a big problem with it. All I tend to do is crop out any conversation/chatter from the beginning or end of the tracks, to keep the flow of the mix.

I've used live versions in fanmixes before. Sometimes the live version is far more appropriate for the mix. As long as its a good quality recording, there isn't anything wrong with it at all (in my opinion).
