Just got home. Head sore from being in town all day without much sleep. Got quite a few applications. Got... hit on. That was weird. I waved the guy off. Creepy.

Also dropped by the little video game store in downtown since [livejournal.com profile] firefly99 told me picking up the original MGS1 would be worth my time. Mr. Store Owner had three copies of the game.
Mr. Store Guy: I got three. Twenty five dollars.
Lucy: Holy crap, really?
Mr. Store Guy: :rattles off facts about how rare the game is:
Lucy: You know, I often wish you were like every other used game dealer and sold all your old gens for two bucks.
Mr. Store Guy: :grins in a throughly smug manner: Yeah, I know.

And he offered to drop the price to nineteen dollars. Still out of my price range, but nice. I'm gonna try to emulate the game first and if I can't I'll probably cave and sell back a handful of my own games to get it. Damn the pull of MGS. Damn it to hell.

I'm about to either play Mother 3 or throw on RENT. Seems once every six months I rock out to it for a week, then don't touch it again for a long while.

I feel weird coming to people's journals but I guess it's the right etiquette. :( Do you mind if I friend you? I need more gamer-type acquaintances.

Well, tell me some of your fandoms! :D Me, I'm a video gamer (Valve, MGS, Insomniac/Naughty Dog/Sucker Punch platformers, Okami, Beyond Good and Evil, lots of others, been playing since I was a wee child), music geek (especially nerdy music like Coulton and TMBG), political junkie, former scifi fan (Stargate, Doctor Who, a few others).... I write fanfic, usually gen or slash with a side of het in the right fandoms.

You? Any congruency to be had?

Sure! I'm definitely a big music geek, especially music like or inspired by Tom Waits. I used to write fiction, but I'm more of a greedy, greedy consumer now. As for games, I must admit I don't have the largest repertoire, but I'm a huge huge Valve fan, especially the HL2. Also I watch a lot of Let's Plays on youtube so I end up becoming a fan of games I've never played, which I will admit is lame.

:D?

I am a member of the Something Awful Forums, AKA: the home of real Lets Plays. :takes this opportunity to pimp LPs:

You watch LPs. You are added. It must be done. :adds: Keep in mind that I'm kinda monofannish, so I'll probably babble about MGS the most, but I'm on the verge of finishing the Orange Box and I have a bit of general gaming squee too, so... Yeah! :D Welcome!

I knew about the LP origin, but I've never had an SA account so I went the easier route! Thanks for the recommendations, I'll check them out.

Sweet! I really do want to play MGS, for real, I've just been dicking around about actually buying it.

Nineteen dollars isn't so bad. Trust me, it is worth it. I'd totally donate money to the Get You MGS1 fund if I had any Internets-money (most of my money right now is IRL-money which will be useless to you).

I have rips of the PAL version of MGS1 which I use for my own purposes, but I can't really upload due to internet connection wankery.

WOW. THE VOICES ARE HUGELY DIFFERENT.

I mean, I knew they would be from reading your summaries, but it's really different. I love Naomi's old voice much more than the remake's version. And Snake sounds ridiculously young. It's so weird.

I love Snake's young little voice in MGS1! It's really adorable and easily the hottest he sounds ever.

I don't hate Naomi's TTS voice as much as everyone else does, but the MGS1 Naomi has a different feel - more sarcastic and a bit more playful, I think. (My favourite Naomi voice was in MGS4, though - her voice over performance was BEWITCHING AND COMPLETELY FANTASTIC and basically single-handedly redeemed the character for me).

I like most of the original voices and performances better, but that's not exclusive. The emotional scenes between Snake and Meryl are far better acted in TTS, so prepare for some fun Narm there.
