Researching Florida colleges. So far, apparently every single one of them is complete crap. Greeeeat. God, I hate Florida.

Doesn't help that I'm still very unsure of what I want to do in life. My only idea is kinda stupid, probably. I'm really thinking about being a video game localizer. You know, the people who translate the game and adapt the text for a regional audience? I... I don't know. I mean, I like languages, would love to be bilingual, I think I'm a decent writer, and I've always had colossal respect for localizations that really make the game enjoyable for the target audience (anyone else remember the way Working Designs translated the Lunar series, with all that genuinely funny humor?).

I have no idea. Maybe it's a stupid thing, but... gah. I love the gaming industry. I always come back to it after forays and affairs with other hobbies. I love it for more than just playing, but for the process. Gaming has been monumentally important to my life and... The only thing is, I have no idea where to start with such a field.

Oh, and Mum and I are going to have a massive row when she gets home from work. I can tell. All around, a good day, eh?

This is true.
I'm hoping to have found an exception in the one I'm applying to, however. Eckerd College.
Give it a look through, eh? It's really not that bad- I went on an impromptu tour last week, and it's rather lovely- and the academics are also pretty interesting.

Always. I still have my Lunar:SSSC discs, and I love how they localized the dialogue. If I were to ever have a hand in a game's storyline/writing, they would be my idols.
(They have had a great sense of humor in their manuals and strategy guides, too! It spilled over everywhere.)

I've been trolling around College Review for the past two or three hours. So far, a lot of Floridian colleges are crap buuuuut... :flips through notes: Miami-Dade CC is supposed to be good if you're at the Kendall campus, and the Uni of Central Florida is good for certain fields and utterly crap at everything else. Seems like everyone says the same thing about every college: beautiful campuses, crappy education. :|

Thanks for the Eckerd rec. It looks nice, but unfortunately is on the opposite side of the state from where I'll be. I've gotta find something in Broward County and the surrounding areas. Eckerd looks pretty though. :sigh:

Shame they eventually closed up shop. You know people like your company when they constantly give you shit for broken deadlines, but they still love you. :misses them, wants to replay L:EBC again now:

Also... after playing most of Mother 3... being able to do something like that seems wonderful. And I dunno, maybe it'd be a jumping board into the rest of the industry? :|

I know you hate them, but if you could somehow get an internship at EA Games...it's right there in Maitland/Orlando, it'd be a good way to make connections to advance in the field, and you'd be able to come over and bitch at me all the time.

Although the thing is, you'd totally need to live in the area, because Orlando-Miami is a four-hour toll road ride.

Uh, yeah, this state fucking sucks. I've been here almost two years now and I'm finally figuring that out. Oddly enough, despite knowing it sucks, I've kind of come to love it. Or at least I love living in Orlando.

The reason I'm moving to Florida is for work though. I'd stay in Missouri then more to the upper East Coast if there was any work around here. But if I'm still jobless in April, I'm being sent to N. Lauderdale to live with Grandmum for a while.

I honestly don't know how one can like Florida, but I've only lived in the Miami-Dade/Broward areas, and they're horrendous, so... I don't know.

If I get down there, I totally want to meet up for a weekend, btw.

Hell yes we have to meet up. ^^

And I hate Miami. Every time I have to go there for a con I always swear I'm never going back. I despise Miami. Orlando is much nicer though.
