Hey, guys, need some help. Cleaning the kitchen today, I found some bags of spice Mum and I bought ages ago. They're unlabeled and I've figured out a few, but one has me stumped.

It's a finely ground, dusty yellow spice. Tastes earthy, almost chalk-like. Has stained the bag its in yellow. Any idea, folks?

Sounds like turmeric (http://homecooking.about.com/cs/spices/a/turmeric.htm), maybe? Especially the staining. Turmeric stains everything.
