I completely agree. At the bare minimum of what was wrong with it, the atmosphere was not as dire as it needed to be imo, and the Chuck (and Cas, I will admit) cameos seemed more like a Greatest Hits selection, but you know what I am excited about? Smut. Good lord, so much potential

SMUT, YES. I feel better because we're having the same thought. I was pill-popping, cheerfully bitter, very very human Castiel and Dean so bad.

I don't care which Dean. I just WANT.

ALSO, the writers certainly took the Dean-Cas thing to its logical conclusion. Castiel is Dean 2IC. Not Sam. Sam's out of the picture.

Oh and that smoking hot chick. Mrow.

They missed the boat on delving into human!Castiel's broken psyche, imo. future!Dean/Cas for the angsty win, with an unhealthily large dollop of desperation, nom.

"Oh come on, I like past-you." <---- FODDER IF I EVER SAW IT. bitter Cas + a Dean that hasn't been as sorely-fucking-tested as future!Dean = lots if anger at past!Dean? Hatesex. Very WHY DIDN'T YOU SAY YES?

Re: Cas as 2nd in command, ita, if Dean never got to fix things with Sam, that's no doubt how it would turn out. But it really killed me how future!Dean sacrificed Castiel and the others so easily. It's war, sure, but his unwillingness to sacrifice people is part of Dean's core character. I wasn't shocked at how damaged he was, but how quickly he decided it was. Yeah.

That liiiiine and his feet on the desk and his HORRIBLE SUNNY SMILE. That smile broke my heart. It's amazing how Misha can play something so angelically unhuman, when you see him shut that off and go back to normal person, it's all "AAAAH THAT'S NOT CAAAAS".

I want established future Dean/Castiel with Castiel flirting with past Dean, much to future Dean's jealous ireNOT CARING, NOPE.

Yeeeeeah, that one moment of killing everyone, even the ones who stood by him and, oh IDK, dragged him out of hell, just.... yeah. Effective in driving home the This Is Not Dean thing, but still. I can't really like future Dean. At all.

The conveniently forgotten schlub who sacrificed everything is a footnote now and that makes me unspeakably sadfaced. Oh hell, I'm a pessimist, I don't think he'll get a happy ending, much less many mentions. In fact, I don't even think Castiel will get a happy ending, but this is way down the line...But I wonder if Jimmy's soul is squished down with future!Cas', or maybe without his mojo there wasn't enough room for the both of them.

I was pretty weirded out at how Not Castiel future!Cas was, but I agree, he was just breaking my heart in those scenes. Castiel's last scene after Dean returned to the present was the best possible thing I would have wanted, even if it was a cliché line (and I would have liked man hugging but that's probably not in the cards).

And Past Dean being a bit freaked, but not really at the flirting since hey, Castiel probably got up to a lot of experimentation that he doesn't know about.

Also wouldn't say no to fic of post-return Dean reevaluating his relationship with Castiel and taking a retrospective stock of future!Cas' damage. Doesn't even need to be shippy.

Sans the killing-everyone bit, future!Dean was pretty much what I expected him to be. I can deal with any fic that just, ugh. Doesn't follow through on that. Betraying random people they've been encamped with is bad enough, but yeah, Castiel. No.
