Okay, fellow Tropers.

Could one of you please dumb down 'World of Cardboard' Speech for me?

Because having read the page several times, I still don't get it. Why is this a trope? It just seems like "Hero Gets Even More Determined and Says So Dramatically". Am I missing something? Fuck, even the Laconic version isn't helping.

I think it's about the hero saying - 'you know what? I'm going to kick your butt and kill you all'.

....

Why is that its own trope? Aren't there plenty of other tropes that handle that already (Determinator comes to mind, stuff like that).

I think it's a relic of an earlier time.

Basically it's about as far as I can tell Superman has to hold back...all the time even against the worst criminals because he could kill with just a pimpslap if he wanted, but when the big bad was strong enough to take it, he was going to completely cut lose, no holds bar because there was no fear left, no restraints nothing.

Now as for the reason it gets it's own trope? It was a well written speech that made superman and super hero fans in general giddy.

Mind you this is me talking without reading the trope or re-watching the speech so I may not even be on the right page.
