And here's the best part about Brutal Legend: The overworld itself. Yes, the game is charming and funny and runs on guitar riffs and Crowning Moments of Badass. Yes, the battle system is really fun and easy to sink into in a way that makes every victory feel hard-fought and worthwhile. Yes, the music is totally awesome and I, an indie/alt rock junkie, have grown to really, really enjoy the 108 metal song soundtrack while driving around. Yes, I am mimicking Eddie's hilariously over the top and outrageous "DecapitaTIOOOOOOOON!"

The best part, though, is the world itself. I've never seen anything like this. Like, I just played Saint's Row 2, right? HUGE city to explore.

That was NOTHING like this. Legend is huge, yes, but it's alwasy a real, rich world. There are no open, blank areas to be found and no two spots look the same. I was driving around for a good ten minutes, just cruising, and I ran across the spine of Ormaggoden, a Stonehenge-esque rock formation, a 50 foot stone Celtic cross, an enormous car engine being dissolved by the sea, a cave filled with metal spiders with shiny metallic webs, statues of hands giving the "rock" sign to the sky, and a beachside rock concert.

Ten minutes. And I only wandered around the top coast of Bladehedge, which is only a fraction of the game world. Like, 1/6th. And every area is like that! From the deserts to the pleasure palace to the mines to the swamp to everything.

The amount of love and detail and effort that went into this astounds me.

:goes back to explore some more:

ETA: ohmigawd. All of a sudden, an eclipse happened and it started raining fire. 8O Cooooool. Especially when I played a solo and summoned a flaming zepplin the crash down. Ultra cool. God, I wish I had a camera.

I watched my buddy Sean play the first, oh, hour of this game, and I had to stop myself form bodily shoving him out of his seat and taking it up myself. The first hints of Ozzy in that beginning fight with the druids had me freaking out. By the time he was driving around in the overworld area and rocking out, I was convinced this game was made for me :') METAL! VIDEO GAME! *G*

Also, the menu is a thing of beauty. :D

I just figured out the "rock" hands were pointing me to Mount Rockmore, which I promptly filled with the heads of all the rock gods in the game. Awe. Some.

((What system do you have? I hear the multiplayer is insanely fun and wanted to try it.))

((Also, there's a really awesome achievement in the game. "Six Degrees of Schafer". You can only get it by playing against someone who already has the achievement. So somewhere out there, Tim Schafer, Patron Saint of Crazy Awesome Vidya, is playing his game against his fans to hand out his achievement. DkfsjDkjrigjrio. ♥))

Mount Rockmore! That's as awesome as Mount Snakemore! ffff

PS3. (I'm one of the ones who bought it for MGS4, oh dear.)

(And, okay, that is officially the best fucking achievement on earth. Ever.)

Boooo, PS3. 8( Someday I will find 360 owners to play games with me. That day will probably come after I cave and get the PS3. Oh well.

I just found out that it's really easy to find him. He's "TimofLegend" on PS3 and 360. ♥

I'm LarrysHomework, FWIW. That said, when it comes to 360, I've been on a Rock Band jag for a long time. Until now, apparently. \m/

I've totally avoided the GH/RB craze, thankfully. If you have Saints Row 2 or .... uh. Not really much else, actually. That's all I own multiplayer-wise.
