Mum has a question for you US college students. If she takes out a student loan, can she use it on bills and stuff, or are there restrictions on the sort of thing you can use the money for?

Oh yeah, this morning we went to the college and got the majority of our admissions stuff done. 83

Also I bought the Arctic Monkeys' Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not. And I'm gonna watch Psych tonight and then play Persona 4.

Good day overall.

When I was in school, which was a couple (10 ow,ow,ow)years ago, you could only take out a certain amount. The money then went directly to the school. The school would then cut you a check for what ever was left over. You could do with that what you wanted. So for example if tuition was 2000, the loan was for 1000, a check would be cut to you for the remaining 1000.

Yes, that. *points up* Like, I get $2200 twice a semester, and there is typically $870 left over each time after tuition is paid. I've used it on bills and to pay my husband's tuition.

But what if you got a Pell Grant that covers most/all your tuition? Can you just use the whole thing on what you need?

Yeah. Because loans are meant to also help with housing, books, meals, etc. They're meant for students to live on. As long as you pay it back, they don't care how it's spent.

This isn't even going to matter to you guys for years yet, but technically you can't get a student loan interest deduction on your income taxes if you used any of the loan money for random other stuff (tuition, fees, books and room & board is all good). THOUGH I DON'T GET HOW THEY WOULD EVEN KNOW.

That's really awesome info, and I'll pass it on. :nodnod: Mum's assuming she can just it for rent checks and be okay since that's room and board in a way.

I am afraid that I have no idea about the student loan question, but I put forth a question to you about Psych:

Did you think the end was underwhelming? Was that just me?

I have to completely disagree. I found the entire first half poor-quality and shoddily done- the least Genre Savvy person in the world knew Mary wasn't the killer, FFS, and the Hitchcock felt very, very forced. But from Marion's death onward, it just got better and better. And fuck yeah, Lassiter was awesome. And the hug between him and Jules was very, very, very good and made me tear up (which added to the deep sadness of Marion's funeral, my face was all D8 for the epilogue).

Honestly, just... lackluster start, but very, very slowly got better. I think they needed 90 minutes to pull of what they were aiming for.

That's my thoughts. But maybe I just like the ending because, again, ROCK ON LASSITER. SAVE YOUR FRIEND, BE AWESOME.

I wasn't sure really, what I thought. I think I need to watch it again, that would probably help.

I agree, though, that the Hitchcock was SUPER FORCED and, oh Marion's death was so heartbreaking for me. It was good to see the chief again, too.

Also: you knew Lassie secretly was a champion hugger, I'm sure. He just looked like it. :)
