OKAY SO I HEAR THERE WAS A DRESDEN FILES TV SHOW AND IT KIND OF SUCKED WHEN COMPARED TO THE SERIES.

Okay I actually watched the pilot and quit the show five minutes into episode two because omfg I just couldn't get over the differences, and that may make me a bad person but WHATEVER LET'S TALK ABOUT CASTING.

I liked Paul Blackthorne, I really did, but you know what? I am mentally casting the Dresden Files Movie, so let's talk about someone else.

Lee Pace.

No. No. No. I know. I KNOW, OKAY? I said Lee Pace and you instantly went, "You mean the Piemaker?!"

Yes, technically I mean him. But I'm not talking about Ned. I'm talking about Lee fucking Pace.

See, now have I got your attention?

It's amazing how much Pace transforms when he's lacking Ned's goofy boyishness and has some stubble going on.

And, ffs, I think he'd work. He's tall, he's thing in that gangly way that reminds me of Harry, and his face can do the stoic, sad, heroic thing and that lovely, sweet smiling thing.

Lee Pace. Not even kidding here. I think he could do it. And having watched most of Pushing Daisies, I think he could bring the snark.

Now, John Marcone. Because the TV series had the gall to not include the most GQ motherfucker in the books and the coolest Noble Demon since Mr. Anthony J. Crowley.

Adrian Padsar.

Yes, I recolored his eyes. Just pretend there's some grey at his temples and that's Chicago behind him and AM I ALONE HERE?

I admit Padsar might seem a little young for the role, but I think you could age him five or ten years easily. In Heroes, he occasionally got this haunted, quiet look on his face that really made him look ten years older. It was crazy and to this day I have no idea how old Nathan was supposed to be. I mean, I thought late 20s until the thing about Claire was revealed.

It helps that he pings as Obviously Italian like Marcone. And I think he has the build for it. See, I always pictured Harry as kind of wiry in a way that if he kicked your ass, you'd be a bit surprised, while Marcone was clearly muscled? You mileage may vary, obviously.

[livejournal.com profile] canis_takahari helped me with Murphy, as I was honestly stumped.

Rachel McAdams. If she went blonde again.

There we go.

She fits the profile. Cute as a button, but able to kick your ass. She played Adler in the admittedly lackluster Sherlock Holmes film Ritchie made.

I'll post with more once I figure out who should play Michael, Susan, and others.

Lucy: I need to fit Nathan Fillion in here. Somehow. I just got to.
Mum: Have him voice Bob.
Lucy: ... omg I love you.

/em places a target on his chest.

I was remarkably okay with tv!verse - in that I knew it was a reimaging of the books, and not meant to be a faithful translation.

I could take or leave Blackthorne - he's a solid actor who had the grit, but he just didn't have the physicality, and agree they lost a lot not having Marcone (especially if they made it to a second season). Though I'm not sure about your casting - I always pictured Marcone as more...compact.

This is where I get lynched. I liked the actress who played Connie Murphy. Yes, it was a different name and physical appearance than the books, but I liked how she carried herself.

Two things I liked about the series - magic wasn't quite as hostile to tech, and Bob. I will freely admit I prefer tv!Bob to book!Bob - I think Hrothbert of Bainbridge is downright brilliant, compared to early!Bob-the-Spirit.

If you want neo-noir, jump straight to 1x09. Plus, you get to see Claudia Black put Harry in his place. I was so disappointed we only got a half-season before SciFi cancelled it. But yeah, it's like most movie adaptations. If you're read the books and already imagined the scenes, the tv shows will be...less.

Also, you need to see the show's version of Ancient Mai. She is ... very yes.

I think the reason (as I responded to a writer elsewhere) that all my fanfic plotting is in tv!verse is because writing to Jim Butcher's style intimidates me near as much as writing to PTerry's style. I'm pretty sure I'm not that brilliant.

For Harry, Sasha Roiz, if he can scruff up a bit?

For Marcone, I could actually see Esai Morales carrying it, though he'd need contacts. (No, I'm not trying to keep Caprica castmembers working, why do you ask?)

Okay, here's one for you - Thomas. Who?

That 6'9 lanky thing is just...it'd have to be a new casting, the more I think about it. Because I can't think of a single actor with the height alone.

And I'm sure I'll get brave and try something when Hawaii isn't eating my brain.
