Like, I can't believe it but it actually managed to get worse than I expected.

Two things:

1. GODDAMNIT HARRY, YOU FUCKING SUCK. Your apprentice has a thing for you and makes a move and you respond like that? What the fuck is your issue? You think humiliation is the way to go? FFS, there was no reason you had to do the ice water thing-- everything else you said in that scene was pretty spot-on for your character. Not flawless, but this is you we're talking about. But the water thing, what the fuuuuuuck. And you KNEW it was coming and you LET it happen.

Here we talk about sex things, guys. Prepare for TMI.

Okay, so Molly is full of all kinds of sexual tension. I mean, she's seventeen, FFS. She wanted to bang Harry pretty bad. She's got a lot of stress in her life. For chrissake, she came inches from being executed! She fucked up an ex-boyfriend's mind because she had lingering issues about him!

Am I alone in thinking Harry was really wrong for telling Molly no masturbation? Especially when there is no explanation. It almost comes across as him just screwing with her unless he explains why.

I know there is fanon about Harry never wanking off that makes sense with his issues. He's very much a believer in sex being a nigh-sacred act of joining, and I heard someone hypothesize that masturbation would give a wizard crazy magical feedback because that energy has no where to go. Great fanon, but it has zero canon evidence, and since this book just sidestepped even trying to explain it, I'm baffled.

Because Molly, honey, you could use the stress relief. Screw Harry, get with the solo exploration. Pent up emotion can only lead to bad things for you, Little Miss Mindfuck.

For such a good storyteller otherwise, he really does fail hard whenever the issue involves sex, and especially when it involves women's bodies.

See, most of the time, no, I think Butcher is pretty good while Harry, a classic Unreliable Narrator, is the one with the gender issues. But PG? No. No. NO. That was Butcher.

Harry has volumes. But I've also read four books farther than you, and the first two in the Codex Alera. Some of those issues? Not just Harry's.

Which is really painful to say.
