Okay, I am taking a break from MoC.

To explain: ask my betas and they will tell you how just... angry I've been at the fic for the last few weeks. I expected to get 75% of the new arc done while in Florida, but to be honest I am not enjoying my "vacation" (hah yeah right), I've been sick 5 or 6 days a week since I got here (Cyprinella thinks that may be stress, I think something in Florida is not agreeing with me), and I frankly don't think MoC has been of a very high quality lately. The whole thing has been reading very flat to me and there is a good chance that once Book Two is done, I will take a full month just fixing up problematic bits before unleashing the final draft onto the AO3 archive.

But basically right now I need a breather, especially since we've reached the part I've been wanting to write since I outlined the book months ago. I don't want to fuck it up.

Instead, I'm working on the bakery AU I set aside when I picked up MoC again. There is a sad lack of honestly happy AU fic in this fandom as compared to most others. Off the top of my head, the only one that comes to mind is the academia AU and the Iliad AU... We need some fluffy fun AUs. I will hopefully supply one of these. I'm trying to figure out if I should wait until I finish the whole thing or post it in parts, a la MoC...


I'm going to be so glad to get out of this state and back to Missouri. I always say I don't like living there and that's still true, but Florida is still worse on every level.

ETA: oh god I am crying so hard right now. Today was a rough day in the Twitterverse because someone accused Harry of being a racist and said some shady shit about him and it was a rough day, basically.

Luce, you need to do what you need to do. Writing should be fun, not a chore. If that means a delay in MoC, then so be it.

I did share it with Harry. He retweeted it and said "Lucy, it's outstanding" and loved it. I was really nervous to show him because I wasn't sure if it was weird but... nope. It wasn't.

Definitely take as much time as you need on MoC. You've produced an amazing body of work in a shockingly short timeframe, and I'm truly impressed, but you definitely shouldn't try forcing yourself if it's not enjoyable. Especially if things are not going so great IRL (*hugs*), you should write things that make you happy. (And I agree, there needs to be more happy AU fic.)

You are more than welcome. Grene has left her little purple notes all over the place, but I think all of yours are gone since I corrected stuff since then... God, seems like so long ago, argh. Yet I'm not sure if it's grown at all since you've last seen it-- I think at the very end, there's a John/Harry bit that's newer. Otherwise I'll be picking away at it all tomorrow, likely.

I'm hoping when I get back home, MoC will come easier. It's the love of my life, but yeah, happy AU time. (Possibly I am jealous of the X-Men First Class fandom and all it's lovely happy fic.)

Logically, when you say "happy X-Men First Class fic" I know you mean the adorable AUs that are popping up all over the place, but no matter how many of them there are I will never be able to escape the black hole of despair that is the Beach Divorce scene. Even though mostly what I read is the happy-ending-guaranteed AUs.
