In which the game redeems itself in two and a half hours.

Atlantica

Shite. Romance sideplot I don't care about. New, more unusable swimming controls (if you can't pull it off and make it easy, don't do it!). And singing. I thought you were jossin', [livejournal.com profile] hobbit_marked, but there be singing. It be bad. I honestly recommend muting your telly for the course of this shite mini-game. If I had the cash, I'd buy a ticket to Japan and hunt down the idiot who thought singing belonged in a RPG.

Luckily, I couldn't continue this world because I didn't have a spell.

Halloween Town

See, this is what I meant, Squenix. You do not have to recap the entire film. This one mentions the movie's events, but goes off that in a brilliant manner: Jack wants to host Christmas again. This is terribly endearing. Jack is probably the second-best animated character in this game. And Santa is awesome- slightly pissy and rightly so. Though Maleficent is back again... Look, she was great in the last game. Now, I'm tired of her.

Boss battle is also inventive and quirky. Think of Oogie Boogie's boss battle in KH1 and subtract the mind-numbing annoyance it gives you.

To sum up in quickly:
Jack Skellington > Jack Sparrow

(Also, enjoy Jack while you have him. He's more powerful than Sora and Donald combined. Check out the icicle magic he does!)

TT-HB

PLOT HAPPENS! Here's a rough rundown of this game so far:

00:00 - 00:04 ~ 'ooh'ing and 'aww'ing over the beautiful opening animation
00:05 - 02:30 ~ utter confusion and 'wtf' faces
02:31 ~ plots to murder the creators of this game
02:32 ~ pure and utter relief at seeing Sora outside a flashback
02:33 - 12:00 ~ The Best of Disney induced coma (though Old-Time Disney was good)
12:01 - 14:45 ~ The Game Redeems Itself

Kairi is always in danger, isn't she? Axle agains makes the players think he's not!evil. I'm not convinced, but I do think he's crushing on Roxas. *shrugs*

Okay. Hollow Bastion. MICKEY! This is the best animated character in the game (sans Sora, but he's a main one, so he doesn't count). He's so awesome. He's like Yoda, but more cuddly. Putting Mickey in black was a genius move. It makes you take him, a cartoon mouse, more seriously.

Now, as soon as they mentioned computer, Mom yelled "TRON!" I really hate when she's right.

Tron is love

I'd buy the game for two moments and this is the first. Tron is stunning to look at. The entire realm is digitized and is extremely true to the film. If you didn't see the movie, I doubt you'd appreciate the coolness, but, goddamn, the bike races! The MCP! Tron! The Coolest Boss Fight.

This boss fight is amazingly fun, but you have got to have Tron in your party and the PotC keychain equiped (called something about Winds). The combo limit Sora and Tron pulled is so cool to watch and then you pick up all the shiny orbs and freeze the MCP and beat it into the ground. SO COOL.

Hollow Bastion: When Things Get Interesting

Some things are explained, which is good. I'm still a bit confused on the whole Ansem Thing, but gimme time.

Then you walk outside, and if you've played KH1's Platinium Match, have a panic attack because the One-Wing Angel shows up. zomg. It's nice to hear him talk, I must say, but the Cloud Subplot seems useless.

Then you go off to fight the O13 member I shall call BubbleBoy, because I missed his name (did they give us one?). This guy is the first really tough boss. You have to have certain skills equipped to beat him, namely anything that lets you get to your opponent quickly. He uses a mix of powerful attacks in tandem with powerful magic that is like a wall around him. You have to move quickly. It's a very satisfying battle and the first time I died.

Then Something Happens and angst follows and it's off into battle. Cloud and Squally are awesome together. Their little banter thing made me chuckle quite a bit and reminded me how powerful these cats were in their respective games. Honestly, if Leon had the Lionheart Limit Break, he'd take care of O13 single-handedly.

Then you reach a point in which Peter Jackson is surely being paid royalties but you won't care because it is The Redeeming Moment of KH2. You'll know it when you see it.

Sparse recaps-review, but I don't want to spoil.

Oh! I do love these little recaps. I'm playing the game now, so its fun to see what other people think of it.

To be honest I liked the singing in Atlantica, seeing as the entire world is one big mini-game. I squealed when she started to sing 'part of your world.' Ah, I feel old, that movie came out when my little sister was born.

Ah, the Tron world. Gotta love it. I must have seen that movie a dozen times. My poor brother had no clue, poor guy.

As for the best part of the game? Auron! *fangirl squeal* I was really mad when FFX-2 didn't have him in it.

...right, going to go back and look at those icons again. Those were great! Err, the Doctor Who ones anyway. ^^ Heh.

I just got the game to own earlier today, so I'll have another review-recaps up sometime tomorrow. Glad you like 'em!

I cannot stand Atlantica, but I hated Ariel even as a child. My favorite Disney film as a kid was Nightmare Before Christmas. I was an odd child.

Tron=pwnage. Everyone should see Tron.

I'm madly anticipating seeing Auron again. He rocks like a big ol' rocking thing.

*grin* Thank you muchly.

Ohh, see I was a nerd and bought it fully prepaid months before it came out. Heh. I did the same with the first KH, I love the new fighting controls with this game. Like you said in the recap the reaction commands are kind of cute. And I really like the mass battles, although I'm rethinking starting the game in the hardest mode. *shrugs*

And your not so much of an odd child, whenever I'm in the Halloween Town, I start singing the words to the theme of the world. I love that movie, I think I've made my niece watch it a few hundred times and shes only 7 months old. Heh.

Oh! Do you mind if I friend you?

I would have, but I forgot about it completely. It'd been so long since the last game, KH wasn't on my fannish radar.

God, I need to see NBC again. I wonder if the movie store has a rental...

Sure, go ahead!
