Quick question: Why are we not supposed to like Coldplay?

Honestly, why? They were loved for a while in fandom, then there was this backlash and now they aren't cool enough for fandom.

("Cool enough for fandom" is a hilarious phrase for some reason. I mean, we're geeks, and geeks obsessed with fictious media! And we think we're 'cool'? The hell? *laughs*)

They made good melodies, the lyrics aren't stellar but can the emotion behind them to make them so lovely, and if you watch the performances, you can see how hypnotic Chris Martin is when he starts to move. The songs are usually amazing when vidded properly, and the band seems to be made of good people.

So, why does fandom badmouth Coldplay?

I don't know. It's the whole indie thing, "OMG Two other people know about this artist ZOMG I MUST FIND NEW MUSICAL BLOOD" which I don't get. New artists? Cool! But it's okay if it's played on the radio or other people like it.

It makes no sense. Somewhere in my brain, "Speed of Sound" is a DW/Neverwhere crossover, and if that isn't geeky enough then we should all turn in our geek badges and go home. Though their latest song sounds rather deliberately like U2 to me. Like they aren't (generally) popular enough?
