1. "All Because of You" - U2
"I saw you in the curve of the moon/In the shadow cast across my room/You heard me in my tune/When I just heard confusion"
"I like the sound of my own voice/I didn't give anyone else a choice/An intellectual tortoise/Racing with you bullet train"
"I saw you in the curve of the moon/In the shadow cast across my room/You heard me in my tune/When I just heard confusion"
"I like the sound of my own voice/I didn't give anyone else a choice/An intellectual tortoise/Racing with you bullet train"
My theme song for the boys. From both their PoVs (I lean towards the first verse being Larry and the second being Charlie). Very cool song and, hello, U2! U2 is always good.
2. "Complicated" - Dick Brave and the Backbelts
"You become somebody else 'round everyone else/Watchin' you back like you can't relax/Trying to be cool but you look like a fool to me//Tell me, why complicated?/I see the way you're acting so frustrated"
"You become somebody else 'round everyone else/Watchin' you back like you can't relax/Trying to be cool but you look like a fool to me//Tell me, why complicated?/I see the way you're acting so frustrated"
From Larry's PoV, noticing the difference between his Charles and the world's Charlie. Yes, you may have heard this song before re-done horribly, but this is the original and it has a special place in my heart.
3. "It's All for You" - Sister Hazel
“There's been times/I'm so confused/All my roads/Will they lead to you?/I just can't turn/And walk away//It's hard to say what it is I see in you/Wonder if I'll always be with you/But words can't say, I can't do/Enough to prove it's all for you”
“There's been times/I'm so confused/All my roads/Will they lead to you?/I just can't turn/And walk away//It's hard to say what it is I see in you/Wonder if I'll always be with you/But words can't say, I can't do/Enough to prove it's all for you”
Sometimes, people look at them and ask themselves, “What do they see in each other?” I respond, “What, you think they know?” They just work.
4. “Pi” – Kate Bush
“Oh he does love his numbers/And they run him in a great big circle/In a circle of infinity/But he must put a number to it”
“Oh he does love his numbers/And they run him in a great big circle/In a circle of infinity/But he must put a number to it”
Yep, Charlie song. Math isn’t something he can shut off, it’s perpetual for him.
5. “Original of the Species” – U2
“I’ll give you everything you want/Except the thing that you want/You are the first one of your kind//And you feel like no one before/You steal right under my door/I kneel, ‘cause I want you some more/I want the lot of what you got/And I want nothing that you’re not//Everywhere you go, you shout it/You don’t have to be shy about it”
“I’ll give you everything you want/Except the thing that you want/You are the first one of your kind//And you feel like no one before/You steal right under my door/I kneel, ‘cause I want you some more/I want the lot of what you got/And I want nothing that you’re not//Everywhere you go, you shout it/You don’t have to be shy about it”
Because Larry is.
6. “You Only Live Once” – The Strokes
“Twenty-nine different attributes/And only seven that you like/Twenty ways to see the world/Or twenty ways to start a fight”
“Twenty-nine different attributes/And only seven that you like/Twenty ways to see the world/Or twenty ways to start a fight”
Sometimes, Charlie just doesn’t like Larry.
7. “Testing, 1, 2, 3” – Barenaked Ladies
“We recognize the present/Is half as pleasant/As our nostalgia for/The past that we resented/Recast and reinvented/Until it’s how we meant it”
“We recognize the present/Is half as pleasant/As our nostalgia for/The past that we resented/Recast and reinvented/Until it’s how we meant it”
But how do you dislike the only person that gets you?
8. “No Brakes” – The Bravery
“Carry me home, put me to bed/Leave me alone, it’s all in my head/It’s out of my hands, over the wheel/My only chance, my only appeal/What if you’re here to save me from this?/If I disappear, will I be missed?/I never know what I should do/Can I leave it up to you?”
“Carry me home, put me to bed/Leave me alone, it’s all in my head/It’s out of my hands, over the wheel/My only chance, my only appeal/What if you’re here to save me from this?/If I disappear, will I be missed?/I never know what I should do/Can I leave it up to you?”
Though that doesn’t mean he doesn’t tick Larry off.
9. “Call and Answer” – Barenaked Ladies
“But I’m warning you, don’t ever do/Those crazy, messed-up things that you do/If you ever do, I promise you/I’ll be the first to crucify you/Now it’s time to prove you’ve come back here/To rebuild”
“But I’m warning you, don’t ever do/Those crazy, messed-up things that you do/If you ever do, I promise you/I’ll be the first to crucify you/Now it’s time to prove you’ve come back here/To rebuild”
Thankfully, no matter how much of a jerk Charles may have been, Larry finds the ability to forgive him… after making him suffer a little bit.
10. “Miracle Drug” – U2
“Beneath the noise, below the din/I hear your voice, it’s whispering/In science and in medicine/I was a stranger, you took me in//The songs are in your eyes/I see them when you smile/I’ve had enough of romantic love/I’d give it up, yeah, I’d give it up/For a miracle drug”
Charlie has the power to use math, but only Larry seems to be able to make it art.
11. “Perfect Time of Day” – Howie Day
“Close your eyes and take your last breath/Rest your head aside/The end is the beginning/And every point between/Is so lost, so lost//And you won’t feel a thing/And you won’t recall anything at all”
“Close your eyes and take your last breath/Rest your head aside/The end is the beginning/And every point between/Is so lost, so lost//And you won’t feel a thing/And you won’t recall anything at all”
I always associate this to Larry and his way of going around the universe. Life is good, even when it’s not, and there’s always a place to discover, that you should discover before you’re time’s up.
12. “Two Step” – Dave Matthews Band
“Say, my love, I came to you with best intentions/ You laid down and gave to me just what I was seeking/Say, you drive me to distractions”
“Say, my love, I came to you with best intentions/ You laid down and gave to me just what I was seeking/Say, you drive me to distractions”
Yeah, occasionally you just need a halfway romancey song. And Charlie was certainly more than Larry expected.
13. “Let Go” – Frou Frou
“Excuse me, too busy/You’re writing your tragedies/The mishaps you bubble-wrap/When you’re no idea what you’re like”
“Excuse me, too busy/You’re writing your tragedies/The mishaps you bubble-wrap/When you’re no idea what you’re like”
A very vague, drifting song that has that epiphany feeling. Both thinking about each other, knowing their friendship is becoming something else, but not quite sure what exactly.
14. “I’ve Got You Under My Skin” – Frank Sinatra
“I would sacrifice anything, come what might/For the sake of having you near/In spite of a warning voice/That comes in the night/And repeats, repeats in my ear/Don’t you know you fool, you’ve no chance to win/Use your mentality/Wake up to reality/But each time I do, just the thought of you/Makes me stop just before I begin/’Cause I’ve got you under my skin”
Larry’s just stuck in a downward spiral at this point and he’s given up on getting out of it.
Bonus Track! 15. “Life is a Highway” – Tom Cochrane
“Life is a highway, I wanna ride it all night long/If you’re going my way, I wanna drive it all night long//Through all these cities and all these towns/It’s in my blood and it’s all around/I loved you now like I loved you then”
“There was a distance between you and I/A misunderstanding once but now/We look it in the eye”
If Larry ever decided to take his beloved car on the road, he’d of course bring Charlie. Charlie would insist the top be down, they’d argue over the map, bicker over whether to stop for lunch or get take-out. Larry would want the oldies station on the radio, and Charlie would put on this song since Larry won’t take his eyes off the road, ever the responsible driver. Until Charlie tried to put his feet out the window, that is.
