luciazephyr: Book of the Still, the time traveler's lifeline (Default)

I have a girl named Maranda in my PE class. She's a Christian who reads the Bible every day. So we're arguing over which is better, French class or Spanish class, and we start tripping over the languages and start laughing.

Luce: Hee, gotta love foreign language classes.
Maranda: Unless you're flunking out of the class.
Luce: *giggle* This is why God wrote the Bible in English.
Maranda: Yes, exactly.

Um... Well... You know when you get that feeling that a joke you made just went right over someone's head? Happened here. I pointed out that the English thing was a joke, I was trying to be clever, haha. And she... stares at me!

Luce: You realize I'm joking right?
Maranda: About what?
Luce: The Bible! Being written in English!
Maranda: It is.
Luce: I mean, originally, when it was first written!
Maranda: *blinks* Yeah...

Dude, this is a red state on the Bible Belt and I'm a heathen, fair-weather agnostic/usual athetist.

English didn't exist back then, you neanderthal.

*cries*

Heads spin. I swear.

P.S. It's because you're a heathen that you know. There's a very interesting corollation between historical facts and biblical history and how many don't connect the two.

I did begin by explaining the aramaic/hebrew, then tried "Um.... ever heard of Latin?" "Wait. *smile* No. They speak that in Mexico." *slams head on brick wall*

And, yeah, excellent (and disturbing) point. With some people, it's like they read their dear old book and just take what they want from it. And, personally, I know parts of the Bible so I can throw Christians' words back at them for their goddamn hypocrisy.

WOW. It's always entertaining when you meet dense Christians like that. When I went to a Catholic private school even the kidnergartners knew that it wasn't originally written in English.

And I knew that since I learned what latin was! (Heard it in Harry Potter books at 11, decided to look it up on the net, a ha! history of latin, then other old languages.) And thanks for letting me know that about the religious schools. Makes me feel slightly better.

Yes, trust me, the majoriety of us aren't THAT mind numbingly dumb. (Or at least I HOPE not. Maybe the people I met from school ages ago were just very special exceptions.)

*hugs you*

This is why we need education in the schools. You know, that stuff they're throwing away for "Intelligent Design". I swear, it's all a plot by the Zygote of Mendes.

Did I mention the kid in my Adv. Biology class who requested the teacher to underline "Theory" when she wrote "Theory of Evolution" on the board?

I'm the opposite. I have a lot of words. Most yelled loudly in an incredulous tone.

It's Christians like that who make the baby hamster cry.

And then reach for the semi-automatic weapons.

Oh, but it's oh so satisfying to kill this one.

And I would see it more as a public service, because Darwin would just be like, "Dude, why is she NOT out of the gene pool yet? Kill it! Kill it NOW!"

*attempts to be funny? Fails miserably?*

Pretty much. I'm small town. We get French or Spanish, have shite computers, no advanced writing class (*rage!*), and the contempory issues classes keep getting dropped because you need more than three people to go out for them.

*sigh*

I'm small town, too. Meaning we have no computers. No working ones at least.
