luciazephyr: Janelle Monae, "I saved you so you'd save the world" ([♪] I saved you so you'd save the world)

Whoo. What a week.

I had one of the biggest scares of my life earlier this week. Caused me to have a total break down. Lots of crying, laying in bed and wishing for a reprieve. Messy thing. I'm apparently at my threshold of amount of stress I can deal with. If it wasn't for my Twitter pals talking me down, it could've been worse. I'm very, very grateful to them.

So, yeah. MoC is still coming, but the odd thing is I can't write tense dramatic things when I myself and handling a lot of tense dramatic things. So as soon as I calm down, I'll get to that next chapter.

More often than not, I'm mentally in Bakeryverse, what with Grenegome writing the so-far-phenomenal Marcone PoV for it. It's so good for me.

If not that, I'm pondering my original fic, the weird urban fantasy thing. At Thene's rec, I picked up 78 Degrees of Wisdom, a really fascinating book on the Tarot. It's really helping me hash out a lot of ideas about the original fic universe.

One of my core characters is still lacking a name, though. Donovan is still his placeholder. Binz suggested Herne, which is very appropos but isn't exactly easy on the tongue.

So. That's what's up, folks. Still here. Just having a bit of a rough spot.

::hugs:: anything we can do, besides gift-wrapping Gentleman Johnny in a bow that matches his eyes and leaving him on your doorstep?

(Also, your icon is Janelle Monae (sp) - why did you not beat more youtube links into me, for she is truly awesome!)

Bleh. It's terrible that things are awful. I hope they resolve, or ARE resolved soon! I'm happy your twits (twitterpates?) are there to support you; it's just wonderful to have people who care lurking about.

Here's hoping you get through it okay. I'm glad the book helped - it's a great reference.

I'm very sorry about all the mess and stress on your end. Good luck navigating the waters. If there's anything I can do, throw me a line.

There is something very comforting in keeping your headspace harbored in a slightly sweeter universe. Bakeryverse totally counts. (Not like everything is all sunshine and butterflies, of course, it's just not as fundamentally tense as either reality or Dresden canon or MoC. Which is what makes them interesting, of course, but also kind of hard to live with all the time. Mental breaks are good.)

Enjoy your urban fantasy creation--what little I've caught of it secondhand sounds fascinating, I love the logical magic system/world you're piecing together. Best wishes.

Anytime. Rough patches are hard enough without help.

My schedule's actually a fair bit less hectic these days, so yes, I'd like to beta for you if you would like it.

Oooh, concept post? Delightful. I'd love to see what you'd do with a universe all your own; you have a good head for logical progression of character from world and I do love a well-thought magic system.

Different thing entirely, for your reading pleasure: The Gangster as Tragic Hero. It's a brilliant short essay on the American classic gangster in fiction as a modern tragic hero ('modern' being relative, as the essay was written in the 40's). It's kind of neat, I suspect Hendricks would read it*, and I thought you or maybe someone you know might enjoy a look at it. I would only advise copy/paste into a Word document or something; the text is painfully tiny.

*Marcone, being a 'real' gangster, does not consider himself susceptible to the foibles of an author-derived narrative; however, he is very conscious of them, as a way of guarding himself against preventable losses and those with a sense of humor**.

**Dresden, mouthy underlings, and the occasional fae. Mostly Dresden.
